Reviews Summary

Galanga Thai House is celebrated for its stunning, romantic ambiance and exceptional Thai cuisine, particularly its standout oysters and creative dishes. While many praise the authentic flavors and beautiful presentation, some diners find the prices high and note occasional inconsistencies, such as a disappointing sticky rice or overly sweet curries.

"Galanga Thai House offers a beautiful escape in the heart of Mexico City. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. We sat by a window and it was absolutely lovely. Service was excellent throughout, attentive, friendly, and efficient.

The food overall was impressive. The tom yum soup had great flavor, and the green curry and chicken wings are definite standouts. The oysters completely stole the show, easily among the top three I’ve ever had. I still find myself thinking about them.

The only real miss was the sticky rice. Given how central sticky rice is to Southeast Asian cuisine, I was disappointed that what was served didn’t quite deliver on texture or authenticity.

Even with that small detail, the experience was well worth the money. I’d happily return, especially for those oysters."

"Enjoying Thai food, we booked a lunch reservation here after reading about it in the Michelin guide. Here's my family of three's experience.

1) Food: It's more unique Thai food with creative spins on dishes. You won't find staples like green curry with chicken or tom ka gai soup. You will find chicken dumplings beautifully molded into blue dough and papaya salad with jumbo shrimp. We enjoyed every dish, including the beef dish with egg and rice. My wife and daughter found the pad Thai a little too crunchy, but it does come inside an egg (cooked like an omelet).

2) Drinks: We enjoyed our cocktails. The guava mimosa was very refreshing!

3) Service: It was attentive and friendly. Our food came out as it was ready from the kitchen so it's staggered.

4) Space: It's beautiful and fits its neighborhood well. We sat in their courtyard with green plants everywhere. We sat by an outlet and charged our phones as we ate.

5) Prices: This is where it's hard to justify. Yes, the food was good, but WAY more expensive than many places in CDMX. Why spend over $125 on a lunch for three when we could have world-class tacos for mere dollars."

"Exceptional Thai Dining – A Must-Visit Michelin Spot

This Michelin-starred restaurant truly lives up to the hype. From the moment we arrived, the hostess made us feel warmly welcomed. The food was outstanding—we ordered more than we could finish simply because everything was so tempting. Every dish was bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. The décor is stunning and adds to the overall experience. If you’re a fan of Thai cuisine, this place is an absolute must-visit."

36 Best Restaurants in Mexico City for Birria, Ceviche, Tacos, and More

In the patio of a beautiful, open-air mansion, Galanga Thai House, the defining Thai restaurant in the city, is steered by powerhouse chef Somsri Raksamran and her Mexican husband, Eleazar. The menu is ample and the dishes elegant, with thoughtful touches throughout: banana leaves folded just so; fans of cucumber; the tod moon gung speared with ginger. The flavor of gaeng kiew wan, a green curry with beef and baby eggplant, extends into tomorrow with herbs and chiles.

The 20 Best Restaurants In Roma, Mexico City - Mexico City

More restaurants in Mexico City have become increasingly international over the past decade, and this Thai spot is another example of that. You’ll see familiar noodle dishes on the menu, but the standouts here are the “platos fuertes,” or entrees, like the khao soi and the khai paloh with egg and pork belly. Add on a plate of gai tod golae, which will be some of the best fried chicken wings you'll ever try, and wash it all down with one of their mezcal cocktails.

An incredible recent addition to Asian food restaurants in Roma, Galanga is run by a Thai- Mexican husband and wife team and serves authentic and delicious Thai food to rave reviews. Galanga is a root much like ginger but with a stronger flavor and is the base of their curries and soups. The pad thai is, of course, the standout but the Pad Pak and the green, red, yellow and massaman curries also make our favorites list.

The Best Restaurants with International Cuisine in Mexico City

While the Thai diaspora in Mexico City is tiny, the menu at Galanga Thai House is a broad reflection of the country’s cuisine that varies well past noodles and curries. Chef "Ana" Somsri Raksamran, from Phuket, first came to Mexico as a masseuse at a resort on the Pacific. Her well-worn family recipes – and later marriage to a Mexico City restaurateur – led to her first restaurant, Galanga, in 2015.

Homesick in Mexico City (Part1)

With only 3 years in business, this Thai restaurant has become a staple of La Roma neighborhood. Somsri left Phuket and met her now husband Eleazar here in Mexico, and after not finding the right flavors that did justice to her country, they decided to open Galanga. Eleazar says that although she’s not a chef, Somsri has an amazing food memory with which she perfects the recipes until they taste authentic.

9 of the Best Places to Eat in Mexico City, From a Local

Finding Southeast Asian cuisine in Mexico City is not as common as in large American cities, in my experience. Galanga Thai House was a standout in my eyes when it first opened in 2015, and soon the restaurant became so successful it expanded to a much larger location. Saying that it has the best pad thai in the city is an understatement — it's one of the few I've tried in CDMX that I've really loved.
