Reviews Summary

Mercado Roma is celebrated as a vibrant, trendy food hall offering an extensive variety of international cuisines and a lively atmosphere. Diners praise the communal seating, the engaging vendors who deliver orders to your table, and the fun vibe amplified by live music and a rooftop beer garden. However, some reviews mention that it can be a 'tourist trap' with slow service and multiple transactions, and that seating can be limited during peak times.

"Lively open food court with many food and drink options."

Bing Rethy

"Trendy food market with great variety and a lively vibe

Mercado Roma is a great spot if you’re looking for a variety of food options in a fun, lively atmosphere. From tacos to craft beer and international bites, the variety of stalls makes it easy to find something for everyone whether you’re craving street food or something more gourmet.

The atmosphere is upbeat and modern, with communal seating that adds to the social vibe. It can get pretty busy, especially during peak hours, but that’s part of the energy that makes the place feel alive.

Great spot for casual dining and soaking up Mexico City’s trendy food scene."

Amin Sameni

"Amazing place where you and your crew could find any sort of food. Everyone is willing to help you. Problems are, very small with limited seats and you must do multiple CC transactions."

Rodolfo Lobera

12 Best Markets in Mexico City for All Your Souvenirs

Neighborhood residents protested Mercado Roma before it was built, saying that gentrification would ruin the area. The three-story market is indeed more upscale than its surroundings, but it's the perfect place for sipping Spanish wines, eating tapas, shopping for expensive cheeses, and nibbling snacks. You'll find satellite puestos from restaurants around town, a coffee counter, vegan tacos, and cured meats.

6 Gourmet Food Markets in Mexico City

The pioneer of the food markets in Mexico City, Mercado Roma opened its doors in 2014, being the first of its kind to offer a number of distinct cuisines in one same spot. The market was designed by renowned Mexican architect firm Rojkind Arquitectos, who took what used to be an industrial space and converted it into a modern multi floor-building with orange mosaic floor, same colored stand counter tops and wooden stools and benches. The first floor houses 53 food stands with limited seating space overlooking a beautiful vertical garden, go up and you can find more restaurants, a bar and a pleasant terrace.

A lazy afternoon in Mexico City calls for beer, snacks, and sunshine and Mercado Roma delivers on all three. Less painfully trendy than Condesa, Roma retains its local charm, and this market is an updated, gourmet version of its traditional predecessors. On the ground floor, you’ll find a cornucopia of food stalls with Mexican and international influences while the upstairs German-style Biergarten is an ideal place to settle in for the day or night.
