Reviews Summary

Indio Azteca is celebrated for its traditional Northeastern Mexican cuisine and its century-long legacy as a classic cantina. Diners praise the tender, flavorful meats, especially the 'chamorro,' and the upscale yet welcoming ambiance. However, some reviewers have noted inconsistent service, with instances of inattentive staff, and historical issues with exclusivity, though this is reportedly changing.

"First time I went to this place was at least 15 years ago in Monterrey’s historical dowtown. I am amazed that they have kept the quality. Excellent environment, they have tv’s if you want to watch a game. Food was amazing, service as well. Good news, women are allowed at this one (back in the days this was a men only place)"

Carlos Eduardo Jiménez Oviedo

"Fairly plain atmosphere, no frills or fancy stuff. The service was ok, also nothing special. The waiter seemed to be in a bit of a mood, somewhat inattentive, but it was about 9pm and near closing, so maybe it was fatigue. Who knows. The steaks were good relative to the price. We ordered the shrimp and the two versions of the arrachera steak (fajitas; skirt steak), the regular and the "outside," and we couldn't tell the difference despite the price difference. I'm not sure if the more expensive version is worth the extra expense. They have good pork and chicken options, but we're Texan, so we opted for beef. The guacamole was fresh, and the tortillas were ok, likely not made there, no flour, just corn. We thought it'd be more pricey given its fancy location, but it's surprisingly affordable.

Overall, it's not bad but also nothing to call home about, but cheaper than other nearby steak locations. And not loud so you can converse just fine without screaming. We went there on a Monday night, but I'm not sure how loud it gets on weekends."

"We were there to celebrate my dad's birthday and needless to stay, he loved it; as did we. A friend recommened getting the "chamorro" (pork leg) and it was over and beyond, a must try if you're planning on visiting. The baby back ribs and cheese are also amazing and a great choice. The staff were friendly and attentive at all times; however, the only reason I dropped a star was because at our arrival we left a cake for the waiter to store and bring out after we finished having dinner. My dad wasn't aware and it was meant to be a surprise which we explained and the waiter gladly agreed and took it. Nonetheless, we finished dinner and waited, until we realized he'd forgotten and to which he brought the cake and just handed it over. It was honestly a bit dissappointing considering we'd given instructions which he had agreed to. Regardless, we had a great time and would recommend."
