Originally just a grab-and-go sandwich shop around the corner from its current location, Onnno has transformed into the go-to spot for connection, conversation, and a little “taste of the states” in Oaxaca. The dynamic duo behind it all, Estefanía Alvarez and Gustavo Coutiño, combined their food-centric upbringing in Chiapas and experience working in hotels and restaurants in Cancun, Tulum, and New York, with some of their favorite design and culinary discoveries while traveling, including the shared table concept inspired by a cafe they visited in Denmark.

Just beyond Oaxaca’s vibrant neighborhood of Jalatlaco, Onnno Lonchería is a lively spot in Oaxaca known for its inventive take on the Mexican lunchroom. Offering a casual, laid-back atmosphere, it serves up vegan and vegetarian versions of street food favorites like stuffed empanadas, breads and hearty tortas, all made with fresh, local ingredients. One torta in particular is a must here- the sautéed mushroom sandwich which can be made vegan by omitting the goats cheese.

onnno loncheria is one of those places in Oaxaca that you can walk by a hundred times without realizing what’s inside. They’re known for their sandwiches but they do offer salads and a few breakfast dishes as well. We went to onnno for lunch and my better half ordered this hefty ensalada de la casa (house salad) made with grilled chicken, fresh vegetables, goat cheese, caramelized seeds, and olive oil.
