El Mural de Los Poblanos, Puebla, Puebla. 🇲🇽🌮El restaurante más emblemático de Puebla, el estado, no la ciudad. Reviews Summary

El Mural de los Poblanos is highly acclaimed for its authentic Poblano cuisine, particularly its diverse moles and the seasonal Chiles en Nogada. Diners frequently praise the exceptional service and the stunning ambiance, enhanced by vibrant murals. While some find it a bit pricey, the overall experience is consistently described as excellent and a must-visit in Puebla.

"Fantastic. This was one of the best meals I had in Mexico.
Nice serving size
Staff was so accommodating.
Every food was seasoned perfectly.
Drinks tasted good, but could’ve been a little stronger
A great experience from beginning to end"

Auda Gee

"This is one of the most popular restaurants serving famous Mole in Puebla.
Being a vegetarian, I was quickly reminded that most of the mole has some chicken or pork broth and were happy to make a vegetarian one for me
They did make one and it was good to try this unique concoction
Anyhow I still think Mole is a acquired taste
Mine came with cheese
Also different salsa with breads were very good to start with as a complimentary snack

Overall I recommend this restaurant as it’s a must visit and amazing drinks especially Chia lemonade

Lot of pairings abound in this restaurant and usually is packed so having a reservation can help if you have a large party."

Sid Rajora

"Exceptional in every way, don’t recognise the experiences in the negative reviews at all!

We went twice during our stay in Puebla. The menu is fantastic & hugely varied - we tried the mole tasting (5 moles), the tacos arabes, the seasonal escamoles (Mexican caviar!), tacos lechon, squash blossom quesadillas, and one of the salads, and it was all delicious. Some stuff not our favourite, but we were taking risks and trying new things; our fault in other words! The turon ice cream I can honestly say is one of the best ice creams I’ve ever had, phenomenal.

Service also 10/10, such friendly and attentive staff who you could tell really wanted to show off the Mexican cuisine. And the setting is stunning - ask for a seat with a view of the mural!

Overall we loved it, it completely lived up to the hype."

Where To Eat The Best Chiles En Nogada In Puebla, Mexico

This restaurant is one of the icons of poblano gastronomy, and a must if you’re visiting the city of angels. It’s decorated with huge murals of the most important characters in Mexican history, and it serves only typical meals from the state of Puebla. El Mural de los Poblanos is based on tradition and local quality; to ensure the freshness of the ingredients, more than half of them are bought from small growers from all over the state.

If you want an upscale dining experience in Puebla, this restaurant should be on your list. For anyone that loves mole, this is paradise. They serve different types of moles and you can’t go wrong with any one of them, but like any good Pueblano, I would recommend the Mole Poblano, my favorite type of mole. For the indecisive, they also have a mole sampler, so you can try all the moles they offer. Not only do they have great moles, but they also have a beautiful mural of famous Pueblanos. El Mural De Los Poblanos is where the first Chile Negal was served. There is always a wait for tables, but it is worth it. And they offer complimentary Mezcal and beers!" 10 Places To Eat Traditional In Puebla, Mexico

This fine-dining restaurant, located in the historic center of Puebla, preserves the cooking methods and recipes of original Mexican gastronomy, while enhancing flavors with more modern elements. The decor of El Mural de los Poblanos features murals by Antonio Alvarez Moran, a Poblano artist who’s been giving solo exhibitions since 1975 — they fit well with the original recipes, artisanal cooking techniques, and regional ingredients coming out of the kitchen of this 17th-century mansion. For a Mexican delicacy, order the escamoles, ant larvae served with corn tortillas, salsa, and guacamole, or gusanos, which are worms served with the same.

And if your sweet tooth still isn’t satisfied, head to Calle 6 Oriente, also known as Calle de Los Dulces – Candy Street. This street is lined with small, locally owned candy stores that sell some of Puebla’s most beloved sweets, including camotes (cigar-shaped rolls of colorful coconut), candied citrus rinds and the small round tortitas de Santa Clara. Most of these will be hard to find elsewhere in Mexico, so stock up – in particular, La Gran Fama will wrap your souvenirs up in white paper boxes tied with ribbon, making them perfect for gifts back home.

17 Best Restaurants in Puebla, Mexico (2025)

A temple to Pueblan cuisine, El Mural de los Poblanos is the kind of restaurant you come to when you want to experience the city’s most iconic dishes done right. Set inside a grand colonial building just steps from the Zócalo, the space is steeped in atmosphere—arched doorways, warm lighting, and, of course, the namesake mural depicting famous Pueblan figures. It’s refined but never stiff, the kind of place where you can settle in for a long lunch over mezcal and mole.
