Keep driving even after you question if you’re headed in the right direction.

Chamicos in Soliman Bay: $ 👪 – If you are more interested in ‘off-the-beaten-path’ places then Chamico’s should be on your list of Riviera Maya things to do. A little more than halfway from Akumal to Tulum, Soliman Beach is a great place to visit if you want a secluded bay. Though not as wide as the other beaches in this area, the sand is just as soft.

A locals’ secret about 25-minute drive north from town, nested in Soliman Bay. This entirely unfussy beach club lawn furniture and offers up massive range of cheap, super-fresh, locally caught mariscos, some prepped over a wood-fired grill. After the meal, grab a crisp, icy Corona, and take a siesta in one of the scattered hammocks.

And when I say on the beach, I mean it: the restaurant is really just a collection of plastic tables and chairs on a quiet bay north of Tulum, with a few hammocks strung between the palm trees for good measure. We ordered the fried fish and prawns with garlic. The fried fish was fresh as can be.

Turn off the Carretera road from Tulum to Cancun, and head down a dusty track leading to the beach. You’ll arrive at a bunch of palm trees, hammocks and plastic Corona tables – and that’s Chamicos. Order fried fish or local ceviche and a bucket of beers.
