La Coqueta is a small, vibrant restaurant in Tulum, Mexico, inspired by Mexican tradition, passion, and ancient techniques and serves Mayan and contemporary Mexican cuisine. From the inside, guests can enjoy their food, surrounded by hand-painted murals on the walls and intricate woven tablecloths. This makes the place cozy yet playful, the perfect vibe for a casual lunch or dinner date with friends and family.

La Coqueta is your typical roadside restaurant stop, except it isn’t. Decorated in native Mexican colours, Frida Kahlo sugar skull paintings and with lively music playing throughout the whole day, La Coqueta is immediately attractive as being extremely local and down to earth. We stopped by here before heading to Gran Cenote for a breakfast, and read that it was the #1 rated restaurant for the town strip.

With most items between $70-100MXN, most people talk about the shrimp fajitas or the plates (the huge octopus is popular!) that come with rice and beans. Every meal comes with chips and salsa on the table, so you have to try the spicy salsas if you have the tolerance for them!. It’s also great for breakfast (my huevos rancheros are my favorite), but don’t forget about their margaritas too.

Como dirían en México es un local “muy padre”, donde hay buen ambiente y sobre todo buena comida. Los precios son algo más elevados que en los restaurantes más locales, pero siguen siendo totalmente asequibles, se come y bebe muy bien por menos de 10-15€/persona. Recomendado el ceviche!

At times, a restaurant’s exteriors are enough to catch your fancy. But we wouldn’t have known about the carnivalesque La Coqueta had it not been for a friend’s recommendation. And even before we had settled in, we knew our meal here would be memorable.
