What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
La Sqala offers a highly atmospheric dining experience within a historic fortress, praised for its authentic Moroccan cuisine, beautiful garden setting, and live music. While many commend the delicious tagines, couscous, and overall ambiance, some reviews mention that service can be inconsistent, particularly regarding attention towards locals, and that prices are on the higher side for the region.
"My Moroccan friend took us here, and I loved everything we ate—especially the mezes, full of different flavors. The only downside was that it was very crowded. The garden had a great atmosphere, and the bathrooms and other facilities were clean and well kept. The staff were friendly too."

"La Sqala is a must-visit dining spot in Casablanca, offering a well-rounded introduction to Moroccan cuisine in a beautifully atmospheric setting. With dedicated breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus, the restaurant caters to a wide range of tastes while showcasing local ingredients and flavours.
I visited for lunch and started with the Moroccan Salad, a fresh and vibrant dish where the quality of the vegetables really stood out. It worked well both as a standalone entrée and as a complement to the main course.
For mains, we ordered the T-bone steak and a kofta platter. The steak was cooked to perfection (medium-well), served with a crisp salad and creamy potato gratin. The kofta was equally flavourful, paired with perfectly seasoned chips.
To finish, we shared the hazelnut noisette, a rich and indulgent dessert reminiscent of a Ferrero Rocher cake. The portion size was generous — easily enough for three people.
For the table, we were also served olives, warm bread, and a trio of dips (houmous, tomato, and chilli). These were fresh and full of flavour, making for a great start to the meal.
Overall, La Sqala offers excellent food in a charming setting, with attentive service and a menu that reflects both traditional and contemporary Moroccan tastes. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Casablanca."

"Great experience. From the music to the food and service - everything was fantastic. Staff spoke good English and helped with gluten free requirements. The beef shank tangine was so delicious and the frozen nougat was amazing. Nice atmosphere having live music and sitting out in the garden was lovely. Service was amazing without being over the top. Definitely recommend eating here. The afternoon tea looks fantastic too."

La Sqala is nestled in the yellow-orange walls of the bastion at the edge of the old city.
Amongst the city's old fortifications, with great iron cannons lined up facing the sea, this restaurant boasts Casablanca's most extraordinary setting, including a breathtaking garden. A popular alfresco spot, especially for romantics drawn to the candle-lit terrace, the menu mixes dishes from different parts of Morocco, along with some European options.
