Reviews Summary

Rick's Café offers a highly atmospheric experience, transporting guests to the era of the classic film 'Casablanca'. Many praise the attentive service and the delicious food, including signature dishes. However, some reviews note that it can be quite touristy, and a few mention occasional issues with slow service or staff attitudes.

"Admittedly, I was a bit undecided if we were going to book for an evening at this nostalgic Casablanca cinephile's haunt, however, I am super delighted we did. The decor was tasteful and not overdone, the service was courteous and attentive and entertained us with their comical humor. We enjoyed delicious starters and entrées with hearty portions, so much so, that we didn't have room for dessert. We enjoyed the Moroccan Volubulis red wine along with the piano renditions of old and modern songs. A very enjoyable evening. Make sure you get a quick look at the upstairs lounge with it's nostalgic photos of Casablanca and sit at the bar after your meal for the full experience. We had the later time-slot, so it was lovely to not have to shift off our table for the second sitting."

Georgie Boost

"Food was 😋 delicious. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Plus looked very smart. Entertainment at 8pm was all the best most memorable songs. A real treat. 😊
Booking....an absolute must as it is always fully booked!! Simple to do ...email them and do email confirmation 24 hrs before you go. You don't want to miss out!"

Amy Leese

"It’s a bit touristy of course, but definitely worth visiting for the nostalgia of it all. Atmosphere is nice, and the waiters are attentive. One downside is there’s smoking at the bar and that wafts across, so we had to move tables. Food selection isn’t wide, but bar is fully stocked. Prices a little high."

36 Hours in Casablanca

Sure, Rick’s Cafe is a tourist destination, a pastiche that has nothing to do with the 1942 cinematic classic, which was filmed on a soundstage in California. But it is a lovely pastiche, opened by a former American diplomat, with pristine traditional architecture — arched doorways and mosaic floors — and a Moroccan piano-man, Issam Chabaa, tinkling out medleys of the familiar “As Time Goes By” and Sinatra’s “My Way.” (The movie also plays on a loop around the space.) The waiters in fezzes might be a bit much, but the lighting is sultry, and any hokiness is easily forgotten when you’re cozied up at the bar for a well-mixed Negroni (about 115 dirhams).

Rick’s Cafe, the mythical saloon from the 1942 film “Casablanca” has been transformed from celluloid to wood, glass and plaster thanks to the imagination and determination of an American woman enamored of Morocco, Kathy Kriger. Set in an old courtyard-style mansion built against the walls of the Old Medina of Casablanca, the restaurant – piano bar is filled with architectural and decorative details reminiscent of the film: curved arches, a sculpted bar, balconies, balustrades as well as dramatic beaded and stenciled brass lighting and plants that cast luminous shadows on white walls.
