What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
La Maison Bleue offers a visually stunning experience with its traditional Moroccan architecture and family recipes. Guests often praise the beautiful rooms, welcoming staff, and the serene ambiance, especially when complemented by live Gnawa music. However, some reviews mention inconsistent service, issues with room amenities, and a less-than-ideal dining experience with potentially overpriced and uninspired dishes, contrasting with the otherwise charming atmosphere.
"What a wonderful hotel! Stayed here with a group of friends for two nights. The rooms were beautiful and spacious with great amenities (and very clean!), and the hotel itself was in a perfect location just outside of the Fes medina, so it was accessible by car but you could walk to the medina in minutes. The service was unparalleled, we felt so welcomed and taken care of by Khalid at the desk. Our check in was seamless, our bags delivered to the room, we had an amazing Moroccan breakfast every morning, and tea in the evening. I can’t express how kind and welcoming Khalid was! We will be returning to Fes and definitely staying at Maison Bleue!!"

"We stayed here two nights and had dinner. I never write bad reviews. As my grandma says if you don’t have anything nice to say then keep it to yourself. But Fes is so wonderful and folks come a long way to get here so they should have the opportunity to have the best experience. And this place is uniquely bad. The staff is totally checked out. No one wants to be bothered. Fantastically overpaid for a dinner. When asked about the wine waiter said it’s all Moroccan, it’s all good. When asked if he knew anything more or which one he could recommend, he flatly said no. When asked if anyone knows more because I was interested in Moroccan wine he laughed and said he knows the most. Food arrived. It’s mountains of something. A pile of couscous with a tiny bit of veal. A heap of grey/green peas and grey lamb tagine. It’s a single flavor and resembles slop. It’s $50/ person.
There is no chef, no love, obviously but there are some cooks back there making sure to feed us, but nothing else. They are robbing you of the opportunity for a decent or maybe even great meal somewhere else. The room is full of tour groups with a guide. The guides get kickbacks. Im sure it looks great on the brochure, but the food is terrible and the service is worse. Mystery wine was $40. Wine was fine. Fes is really not that daunting, trust me you don’t need a guide. Your gps works. Music was great. So that’s was a bonus.
When leaving we asked for a taxi. Reception told us to go outside and flag one. A bit exhausted from all the Medina haggling and begging I asked him if he could do it. He said he will just fight with them. Didn’t want to do it. I asked again he begrudgingly found a taxi but was very annoyed. Family got a weeks worth of laundry done. It was $125. Bottom line this place is terrible and you should not stay or eat here. There are much better options in fes which has delightful architecture and wonderful hospitality throughout. But just not here. This place is full of beggars and con artists."

"It's should kept for Museum. The most part of Everything looks like old antique that for viewing not for using. I had an experience with Ambivalent sexism toward woman. My partner booked this place under my approved, so if I said "NO" your staff wouldn't have seen us here. The room we booked was with balcony. But there was no bathtub stopper. My partner called to inform them. The Staff running over point at me asked me to show. Later he came again with the stopper that not fit I told my partner to get up open the door and also told him I don't want to pay any attention to this male staff anymore. At the end of the exhausted desert trip we really need a bathtub. So, we got downgraded from the room with balcony to the normal room that cannot open windows that look down to the restaurant. There was no kettle, no slipper, no tea and no coffee machine in the room as stated in room condition on booking.com. The driver can't find the hotel. I had a local sim I had to make a called ask for location. The Batha Café is right next to it. If you come at night. The hotel front in the review looks nothing like it!!! We tired and intended to eat the the restaurant but it was set menu 440 dh per set per person. We are allergic for sesame, nuts, and everything that came out of the river or sea. So, we couldn't eat there. We had to dragged our tired bodies looking for food elsewhere. But at least after the meal we can came back and enjoyed the alcohol beverage in the mini bar fridge. Fez is more conservative than any other cities we had been in Morocco. Most restaurants doesn't serve alcohol. So, if you enjoy food with a glass of wine or beer look at the beverage menu before you decide to eat there. The location was best which can access by car. The petit Taxi here had the same problem as Casablanca meter said 9.87 dh. He want 50 dh. Oh well we had to catch up with the train back to Casablanca no time to fight. We paid it. The steps in the hotel were very steep and many of steps till you arrived the room so be prepared. We paid a lot for 2 nights compared to the 5 stars hotel in Casablanca. We just agreed that think about it, we stayed in an old museum!!!"
