It’s not hard to spot the minaret of Koutoubia Mosque, the most famous in the city. Non-Muslims can’t enter but the grand building serves as an orientation point that will help you get around the city – and its exterior is beautiful to look at. The name is based on the Arabic word koutoubiyyin, which means ‘bookseller’, because once upon a time, the area around the mosque was filled with booksellers.

If you’re looking for the best brunch in Marrakech that won’t break the bank and that is conveniently located in the Medina, then this is the place for you. I always love stepping inside and enjoying the modern Moroccan decor before heading upstairs to the rooftop, even if I have to tackle a lot of stairs to get there. I mean, the views are lovely and I can sip on a delicious spiced cappuccino, with cinnamon and cocoa powder, before ordering from a small but well-priced menu.

The set up of Café Clock is really lovely with an indoor seating level on the bottom where the kitchen is, and a shaded outdoor seating area above where it was very relaxing being able to sit and observe the happenings below. They run various community centred events such as traditional music and storytelling nights, yoga, cooking classes as well as other workshops. The original restaurant opened in Fez and was so sucessful that they opened one in Marrkech also.

Named after the water clock on Bou Inania Madrasa (a 14th-century Islamic school in Fez), Café Clock was founded in 2006 by Mike Richardson. All three locations (Fez, Chefchouan, and Marrakesh) are located in the ancient medina and were once a medieval house. This unique spot is not only affordable, it’s a hub for locals and visitors alike, immersing patrons in Moroccan culture through music, art, and fantastic food.

Cafe Clock is relatively new in town but they have some amazing offerings, along with great food. Like the Cafe Clock Facebook page to keep up to date with all of the things that are happening but be sure to drop in on Thursdays for traditional Moroccan storytelling (in English and Arabic) and Sunday nights for their concerts. Treat yourself to a cup of tea or one of their milkshakes with homemade ice cream!

Some spots we enjoyed in the Medina were Cafe Clock (same as the one in Fes and they have some great family programs during the week) and Cafe Meristan, which has a terrace that sprays mist to keep you cool as you enjoy a tajine. If you have the chance do check out Amal, which is located outside of the Medina, it’s is a great spot that’s helping women in the community learn new skills and get jobs.

Cafe Clock is one of my favourite places to eat in Marrakech, and a must-visit foodie stop for any visitor to the city. Whoever has read the article about great restaurants in Fez knows that I already fell in love with the cuisine at Café Clock. Unfortunately, this cozy restaurant in Marrakech is located a bit out of the medina, but that certainly shouldn’t matter!. If you’re in the Kasbah area then head to Cafe Clock for lunch on their pretty terrace. Their signature dish is a camel burger but there are also regular burgers, salads, couscous and sandwiches too. They’re really involved in the local community so there’s a great vibe here with locals as well as visitors hanging out.

The intercultural Café Clock originated in Fez and has now opened more branches in Chefchaouen and Marrakech. Concerts, readings, exhibitions and cooking classes all take place in the café. You will be charmed by its colourful interior with a superb rooftop at the top allowing you to admire the city with a 360° degree view, even better at sunset.

Cafe Clock in Marrakech is part of a chain that started in Fez. It's known for its great service and tasty food, making it a nice place to hang out or get some work done. If you want a camel burger like you never had it, here’s the place to go. While you won’t get alcohol here, the atmosphere and great food more than makeup for it. You can enjoy performances from Gnawa musicians and even throw a few dance steps of your own if you feel like it.
