Reviews Summary

Yamal Acham is lauded for its authentic Syrian cuisine, generous portions, and affordable prices, making it a local favorite and a great value for tourists. While many praise the delicious food and inviting atmosphere, some reviewers mention slow service during busy periods and a decline in food quality over the years, with occasional complaints about food safety and staff demeanor.

"What a find. Apparently there are three of this restaurant in Rabat. We went to the medina one, wich is just outside the medina. The food is amazing, the staff are wonderful and the price is so low. I was almost in shock. At this point of our journey through Morocco, this is the best dining experience we have had. Everything is right here. From service to quality to price. Order the family spread and you will get an awesome surprise. The two person variant should be enough to feed at least three adults, but with the very low prices don't worry about choosing the three or four person versions. Just get a big enough table to fit all the amazing Syrian dishes. And then there are the very tasty fruit shakes in about 13 varieties."

"Loved it.
I wanted hummus, so I went here.
Very busy...popular.
That's because it's good!
Enjoyed my food, the decor, the service.
Big portions. Good value."

Sarah Carless

"Love this restaurant so much. The food was wonderful and very well priced I ordered so much! Loved the hummus, chicken shwarma and fries. Also got grape leaves! I wanted to try it all! The service for me was really slow though, they were busy and I was one person but I feel like they forgot about me a little bit! Took a really long time for someone to ask me my order 20+ minutes. Overall I would 100% recommend this place. I went back for a second time even."

You won’t find tajine or couscous on the menu of Yamal Acham (5 avenue Al Maghrib Al Arabi). This Syrian-run restaurant has become a local institution, as popular with Moroccans as it is with tourists. Yamal Acham first opened near Rabat’s medina and recently expanded to a second location, with outdoor seating, in the Agdal neighborhood.

Emily’s Guide to Rabat

My number one lunch favorite is Yamal Acham, a local Syrian-Lebanese diner that is always packed with Moroccans tucking in to shwarama, falafel, hummus, salads, and insanely refreshing blended minty lemonade that is just what you need after walking around all day. You can eat a huge delicious lunch for under $10.

The best places to eat in Rabat

Yamal Acham originally opened in the heart of Rabat’s Medina in 1998. Owing to its popularity, the restaurant now has three spots throughout the city, though the original near the Bab El Had gate remains the best for those who prefer a lively atmosphere. The menu focuses on simple home- made Syrian cuisine.

Rabat, Morocco - What typical restaurants, food delivery services, and/or takeout options are popular among expatriates?

Our favorite place was definitely Yamal Acham near the medina. There are some delivery options, but they can often have trouble finding your house. Darija language skills (much more so that French) are extremely helpful.
