What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Mingalabar Restaurant offers a delightful immersion into authentic Myanmarese cuisine with a wide array of curries and salads. While many praise the friendly service and the value of complimentary sides, some find the food quality to be average and portions small for the price. The unique desserts and pleasant atmosphere are consistently highlighted as positives.
"The restaurant has a variety of curries laid out on the first floor where you can choose your main dishes and then you can dine upstairs in the AC dining room. The vegetables platter is complimentary for every table. Love the pickled side dishes and spice level. Remember to try the local desserts - shwe yin aye (coconut milk with sago, coconut jelly, sticky rice, cendol, and white bread). Great service. Cost was about ~$14USD for 2 people."

"Super friendly and helpful staff. Good was average, not sure what all the rave is about. Lots of options both meat and vegetarian. If you order a curry it comes with rice, soup and a ton of sides."

"Hein Min Ko is the Head Waiter at Mingalabar Restaurant. His attention to detail, his service, and his keen eye for his customers’ needs are on par with seven-star server trainings, the only difference between the two is that Sir Hein Min Ko learned how to treat his customers all by himself. His own teachings are what he passes on to the young group that works under him. While we ate, he never stood in one place but paced around the floor to make sure he was available at all times, yet he didn’t stand near us in order not to make us feel uneasy. He asked before opening a can of Coke, and then when he opened it, he used a napkin, extremely professional and unlike any service we have experienced. His mannerisms are that of a manager at Sheraton, Strand, Pullman, Shangrila - actually, even better!!!"

Things to do in Mandalay with kids
Mingalabar Restaurant – Burmese cuisine, the restaurant is a double storey complex and the food was quick and delivered hot. The restaurant was very busy with both local groups and tourists. Burmese food is a cross between Chinese and Indian and the meals were tasty and well priced.
My Favorite Meals in Myanmar
Mingalabar (71st Street between 28th Street and 29th Street): This was the best place I ate in Mandalay for traditional Myanmar food. I had a chicken curry, the lemon salad and watercress with garlic.
