Bajeko Macha Mahal is celebrated for its unique Ayurvedic approach to fish cuisine, offering healthy, low-oil dishes and exotic options like algae fish soup and stinging nettle soup. The food is very healthy and the owners are very friendly. Highly recommended. Price is reasonable too."
Silver Lining
"Bajeko Maccha Mahal, aka Bajeko Fish Palace, is a hole-in-the-wall ayurvedic fish restaurant that is totally worth the visit, particularly if you're craving fresh vegetables. The entire menu is free of "maida (white flour), white sugar, and ajinamoto (MSG)," and is even categorized by the presence of oil (or lack thereof), i.e. "zero oil recipes," "less oily fish recipes," and "oily recipes". There are a number of interesting and unusual dishes that you won't typically find in Nepali restaurants, such as an algae fish soup, ayurvedic herb soup, sprouted beans tossed with black salt, lemon and herbs, and so on. It's easy to order too much, but at least everything you're eating is good for you. Open for lunch."

"Excellent hidden Gem about 1.5km from the lakeside area. The variety of fish dishes are really good. Had Poleko Maccha (Barbecued Bighead fish) and Steamed Fish and both were excellent. The herbal soup they served in the beginning was delicious. The fish were fresh and apparently sourced from Rupa lake. Even if this place is more popular among the locals, if you are a foreigner looking for an authentic local taste, this is the place to be. Far cry from plethora of tourist oriented restaurants of lakeside claiming to serve 'local cuisine.'"
