Andre and Greg have also collaborated to introduce some smoky Americana into the Dunedin dining scene with their newest eatery, Prohibition Smoke House on St Andrew Street. After yet more research, the talented Mr Piner has created a menu replete with southern American classics such as short rib, creole-spiced half roast chicken, buttermilk chicken wings, jalapeño poppers and pecan pie.

After a long, hard day enjoying craft beer and fine ales, it’s time to refuel. Located in the Octagon and sprinkled with roaring 20s décor and an overarching Miami Vice vibe, Prohibition Smokehouse is the perfect pit stop. Centred around a paleo ethos, the decadent menu designed by a talented team of chefs focuses on four main elements: smoke, fire, dry aging and fermentation.

Discover a New Orleans-inspired menu infused with smoky flavours at Prohibition Smokehouse, a sophisticated venue lined with designer wallpaper and hung with pineapple pendant shades. Take your pick from a menu of sweet treats including pecan pie with butterscotch “moonshine”. Located centrally in Dunedin’s Octagon, it’s open for lunch and dinner.

Carnivores rejoice – nothing meaty is forbidden in this hot-off-the-grill eatery where a love of meat takes top billing. Dry-ageing lockers, a southern-style barbecue in an open-kitchen: the theatre precedes the taste. Get down to the real deal with cuts such as tomahawk or T-bone and marvellous, marbled wagyu.

Carnivores rejoice, the well-established Prohibition Smokehouse has reinvented itself as an even more sophisticated den of all things delicious in its new and rather sumptuous Octagon location. Open for lunch and dinner, you can feast on a menu of smoky goodness or stop by for a cool drink in the sun.

They are known for slow-cooked meat dishes and those which are freshly grilled. Whether you are looking for well-roasted bone marrow or crispy pork belly that is served with your favourite side of rice or fries, you will get it here. You will also find drinks such as wine and cocktail.

With a love for meat, Prohibition Smoke House is a very unique restaurant offering a superb dinner experience. Before you taste the dishes on offer you will be amazed by the interior and its complexity. Accompany your meal with an exceptional cocktail and enjoy the atmosphere.

Closer to town is Prohibition Smokehouse, which specialises in smoked and barbecued meats. The menu is designed to be shared with others, which is something to consider before visiting. Lastly, Vault 21 is another excellent option which offers delicious Asian fusion cuisine.

Carnivores will rejoice upon entering this lair of all things meaty, as the aroma of freshly smoked morsels wafts from the kitchen, but plant-based eating enthusiasts shouldn’t fear as there is plenty on the menu catering to your every whim at Prohibition Smokehouse.

The decor of the restaurant makes you feel like you have stepped into a different era and the ambience is amazing. Also 12/10 for the service and I left the restaurant very well fed and well drunk!

He has been group chef at Vault 21 and Prohibition in Dunedin since February 2016. Prior to this he spent five years as head chef at Pier 24 Restaurant at Hotel St Clair.

As you might be able to guess from the establishment’s name. this eatery is a meat lover’s paradise. Its specialty is southern-style barbecue.

Add to that, I found out they are owned by the same lot as Prohibition Smokehouse which I had thoroughly enjoyed earlier in the week.
