Tucked away in Riverbank Lane, Mr. Pickles is a casual yet sophisticated eatery striking the perfect balance between suave and laid-back. With a stylish, competent team and an impressive island bar, it’s a great spot to unwind, whether you're inside watching the bartenders in action or outside on the patio overlooking the Waikato River. While the menu is all about sharing, one thing you’ll want all for yourself is their decadent Basque chocolate cheesecake, paired with a luscious strawberry anglaise.

A perennial favourite also in Riverbank Lane, Mr Pickles never seems to lose its fun factor or standing as a place to go for an all-round good time. This is where you head for a great vibe and casual flavour-packed food from an often-changing menu. Cocktails are clever and fun, and the food can be anything from their forever-popular braised beef-cheek croquettes with habanero mustard to dishes such as tempura broccolini with pickled kohlrabi, house-made sauce and fried shallots.

The bar at Mr Pickles Bar & Eatery in central Hamilton boasts great drinks, food and a fine vista out across the mighty Waikato River - perfect for a romantic date night!. But the best view has to be perched at the bar where you and your love can watch up close as the bar person shakes your favourite cocktail - or try something new like the ‘kiss on the cheek’ deliciousness that features gin plus chambord, the lush and sweet black raspberry liqueur from France, and other magic.

My recent review of Mr Pickles was a local hit, and I’d been encouraged to come back down and try one of the city’s other great restaurants. Sage is in vibrant Hamilton East, just above Duck Island icecream parlour, and though there are a few signs of its former life as an open-plan office, it was cosy enough — the heat pump just keeping up on what would turn out to be the Waikato’s second coldest night of all time.

Developed by a team of hospitality pros, Mr Pickles has become one of the most prominent Hamilton restaurants and a great place to stop for lunch. With food designed for sharing, you can mix and match from the charcuterie range or pick a plate to enjoy all the food. Eating here is a bit more of a casual affair with a menu allowing you to build the perfect platter with charcuterie bites and cheeses. There are bigger plates perfect for sharing with beef cheek croquettes, beer-battered fish sliders, and sticky pork ribs paired with Filipino barbecue sauce.

Mr Pickles, a new eatery, is situated down the end of an alley overlooking the river. At first sight they look like a casual bar but they have a fancy twist up their sleeves and you’ll come to learn this when you glance over their menu.

If you’re keen on share plates, it’s hard to beat Mr Pickles Bar & Eatery if you’re wanting to eat centrally, and just up the river a bit is the wonderful Hayes Common where ordinary ingredients become wonderful flavour bombs.
