JSH or simply Jervois, as its affectionately known by its legion of ardent fans, was born in 2007 when restaurateur Richard Sigley and Chef Simon Gault hatched a plan to launch New Zealand’s first authentic Steak House. They travelled extensively throughout the United States, researching, sampling and truly understanding what made a great steak house great. It was a gruelling trip, but clearly worth the hard work and long nights, as five years on Jervois Steak house still reigns supreme as New Zealand’s pre-eminent restaurant designed to unashamedly showcase meat.

Plain and simple, if you’re looking for a steakhouse in Queenstown, Jervois is the spot. A premium and authentic restaurant, you’ll find the finest cuts of meat here, along with a wide range of sauces and sides to enjoy. Choose between Hawke’s Bay scotch filets ($70/300 grams), Japanese A5 sirloins ($75/100 grams), or tender Australian beef, or settle for a more simple cut like a Taupo T-bone smothered in bearnaise ($12/100 grams).

Constant endeavours to find the latest, greatest bites make us guilty of overlooking Jervois Steak House for something a bit different. A sentiment not shared by the couple dining next to us at JSH on a drizzly, cold Monday evening. This was their second visit in a week — so good they had to come back for more.
