Reviews Summary
Jervois Steak House is celebrated for its exceptionally well-cooked steaks and high-quality meat selections, earning it a reputation as a premier steakhouse. Diners consistently praise the attentive and friendly service, with specific staff members often highlighted for their outstanding hospitality. While the food and service are widely acclaimed, some guests found the water to be surprisingly expensive, a minor detractor from an otherwise excellent dining experience.
"Dining at Jervois Steak House in Queenstown was an excellent experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with a sophisticated yet relaxed vibe that made it perfect for a special night out. The service stood out right away — our server was friendly, professional, and attentive without being overbearing. They took the time to explain the menu, offer suggestions, and checked in regularly to ensure everything was perfect.
The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered steak, of course, and it did not disappoint. It was cooked exactly to our liking, beautifully seared on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. The quality of the meat was clear with every bite — rich in flavour and perfectly seasoned. The sides and sauces complemented the main dishes nicely, and the portion sizes were generous without being overwhelming.
Everything from the starters to dessert felt carefully prepared and well-executed. The restaurant also had a solid wine and cocktail selection, adding to the overall dining experience.
Overall, Jervois Steak House delivered on all fronts, great food, excellent service, and a lovely setting. It’s definitely a must-visit for anyone looking for a high-quality steakhouse in Queenstown."

We had an amazing dining experience here! The service was outstanding — Tony, our server, was incredibly attentive, friendly, and made us feel very welcome. Truly one of the best service experiences I’ve had, highly recommend asking for him!
The food was also top-notch from the starters to the main courses. Every dish was well-prepared and flavorful. The mushrooms were rich and delicious, the venison was perfectly cooked, and the steak was absolutely outstanding.
Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for excellent food and exceptional service!"

"Steak lovers, this one’s worth a visit! 🥩 I tried several dishes here, but the Hururuni Scotch was the clear standout — juicy, tender, and with that perfect fat-to-lean ratio that makes each bite melt in your mouth. The sides paired nicely, rounding out the meal without stealing the spotlight. Wouldn’t mind seeing a bit more variety on the sides menu, but honestly, what’s here already works well. In short: great meat, great flavors, and a spot I’d happily come back to."

Dine here and find out why New Zealand is so proud of its beef and lamb: you could take it to the next level with the Wagyu beef, but honestly it's hard to beat the standard Jervois fillet, with onion rings on the side and delicious sauces. Steak is the undisputed hero here, but like the great American steak houses on which Jervois models itself, there's fabulous seafood too, and even a quality vegetarian menu. Warm, interesting decor, and welcoming, knowledgeable staff (they'll bring cuts of meat to your table to show what you're getting) ensure this place delivers a memorable night.

JSH or simply Jervois, as its affectionately known by its legion of ardent fans, was born in 2007 when restaurateur Richard Sigley and Chef Simon Gault hatched a plan to launch New Zealand’s first authentic Steak House. They travelled extensively throughout the United States, researching, sampling and truly understanding what made a great steak house great. It was a gruelling trip, but clearly worth the hard work and long nights, as five years on Jervois Steak house still reigns supreme as New Zealand’s pre-eminent restaurant designed to unashamedly showcase meat.
