Ciabatta Cafe and Bakery is a bit of a local secret: you need to stray out of Rotorua’s touristy areas to find it, but the detour will be worth it. Freshly baked breads and sandwiches are the obvious draw card here, but the coffee, cakes and pastries are also known to make a lasting impression.

There must be something in the water here that attracts Swiss bakers to Rotorua but we’re certainly not complaining. Tucked away on White Street, in an industrial area, Alex and wife Sue opened Ciabatta Café & Bakery several years ago and became an instant hit with the locals around them. It wasn’t long before word got out to the rest of Rotorua that this is the place to go for lunch featuring freshly constructed warm ciabatta sandwiches (Smokie, Chookie, Hammie, Lammie, Veggie or Brekkie), the Long Dog (possibly the world’s longest hot dog), or a filled pretzel.

Tandoori Palace offers many options including Vegetable Samosa - Wholesome vegetables in a mild masala sauce, encased in a crisp tasty pastry (2 Samosa) served with chutney and Lamb Samosa - Tender lamb in a mild masala sauce, encased in a crispy tasty pastry (2 Samosa) served with chutney.

This café goes the extra mile with a separate indoor seating area just for pups and their humans, making it a rare find in town. Add in some of Rotorua’s best handmade sandwiches, fresh bread, and bakery treats, and you’ve got the perfect pit stop. Whether you’re grabbing something to go or settling in for a bite, the staff are always welcoming, and your pup gets VIP vibes from the moment they arrive.
