Reviews Summary

Frescohallen is lauded for its breathtaking historic ambiance and the stunning frescos that adorn its walls and ceilings, creating a truly unique dining environment. While many praise the attentive service and some dishes like reindeer and turbot, a few diners have noted inconsistencies in food preparation and slow service, leading to some disappointment relative to the price point. The restaurant is celebrated for its atmosphere and special cocktails, but culinary execution can vary.

"The most elegant hotel restaurant in Bergen, set inside the city’s former stock exchange—an architectural gem and historical icon.
The staff? Unmatched.Professional, sharp, and gracefully efficient, always kind and attentive. I’ve witnessed their quiet vigilance firsthand: a place where solo female travelers can feel truly safe and seen.

Ask for the Midori cocktail.
You won’t find it on the menu. It was created by a former barman with a love for Japan, and perfected by the current one.
It’s fresh, subtle, bright, and has no equal in the city. I’ve had it here more times than I care to admit.

In the photos: the restaurant bar crafting a tailor-made brûlée cocktail, sugar flamed to golden over soft foam—a drink with theater, warmth, and intention.

Regulars know what to ask for. And why they keep coming back."

"The place is very nice, so go here for atmosphere and not the food or service. The host asked us if we had reservations as if the restaurant is sold out for days. It was more than half empty. Anyways, it was at least 20 min before anyone greeted us and brought water. So by the time he came we had a our dinner, app and bottle of wine picked out. Asked for bread service, soup and expecting our wine to be served before dinner. After waiting a good while I called the host soup and wine, only than they brought it out. Again had to ask for dinner and than again for check. After paying upwards of $250 for 4 people I would expect little better service. I would forgive all of it if the food was good. Mediocre at best. Only go for atmosphere and have dinner somewhere else!"

"Really nice restaurant. We had a very pleasant evening. Food was delicious and looked amazing. Waiters were direct but professional and attentive. And the frescos are beautiful!"

The Ultimate Bergen Norway Travel Guide

If you’re looking for a gorgeous spot to grab a bite in Bergen, Frescohallen is the place to be—it opened in 2022 in the stunning old stock exchange building (Bergen Børs Hotel mentioned above). While we did not experience the elegant brasserie vibe this restaurant now has, we did eat at its predecessor and can say the atmosphere alone of the vaulted ceilings and highly decorated walls are worth a stop if for nothing else than a refreshing glass of wine or cocktail :).
