I heard there was a town where you can book a Private Sushi Chef for 18 courses/Pieces. Well, that town was stavanger. Service: 10/10 Location 9/10, food: 9/10 Price Point:$$$$ Totall score : 28/30 Would definitely revisit again, but was still hungry upon departure (I'm a big guy I eat a lot). #michelinstar #sushi #sabienso #stavanger #thetravelingdoctor #resturant #norway

Reviews Summary

Sabi Omakase is lauded for its exceptional sushi, featuring the freshest ingredients and a unique Nordic twist, with many praising the intimate setting and skilled chefs. However, some diners find the extensive length of the meal and occasional interruptions for explanations can detract from the overall experience, and comfort could be improved for longer sittings.

"Their sushi was the best I have ever had. The wine pairing was nicely done. It was such a great experience we had there. We will go back again! It's highly recommended for visitors."

Hwelen Young

"The restaurant is undoubtedly a must-visit for sushi lovers seeking a refined dining experience.
The meal I enjoyed was absolutely stunning, with 20 pieces of sushi, each more exceptional than the last. Every bite was a journey of flavors, showcasing an undeniable mastery of Japanese culinary art. I especially loved the delicate fish and the precision in assembling each piece.

However, despite the remarkable quality of the food, the overall experience left me with mixed feelings. The meal lasted nearly four hours, and the length began to take a toll on my comfort. Sitting on uncomfortable chairs for such a long time made the experience feel drawn out, which slightly dampened the joy of the tasting.

I decided not to go for the wine pairing, mainly because the aperitif we were served fell short of the food’s high standard. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the level of the cuisine, which made me hesitant to try the wines.

The service was highly professional but perhaps a bit too intricate for my taste. The numerous explanations and anecdotes throughout the meal, while interesting, added to the heaviness of the experience. At some point, I would have preferred to enjoy the meal quietly without so many frequent interruptions.

In summary, Sabi Omakase offers an exceptional culinary experience with unforgettable sushi, but the pace and overall comfort could be improved to provide a smoother and more enjoyable dining experience."

Dominique

"Great food and quite a variety.
Staff was very friendly, helpful but a tad confused is they had/served alcohol. In the end yes, they found it. Atmosphere lost a star because of the background music - 1980's top ten does not suit the vibe of this place."

This is a special treat, an Edo-Mae sushi restaurant in Norway, prepared and served by the very experienced Chef Roger Asakil Joya, one of the few Chefs outside Japan to be accredited by the All Japan Sushi AssociationHe uses local fish, ages and prepares it in a very traditional way, but then adds some modern touch to it to embellish the experience. All in a very delightful and surprising dinner.

Omakase means “I trust the chef”, and I have no problem trusting my friend Roger Asakil Joya and his team. Sabi Omakase attained its first MICHELIN star in 2017, merely one and a half years after its opening. All you need to do as a guest is be open with mind, hands and heart to what is served if you’re lucky enough to be one of the ten guests at Joya’s table.

In other words, at an omakase restaurant, it means that you trust the chef to serve you something good. The owner of Sabi Omakase, Roger Asakil Joya, is one of Norway’s few sushi chefs, credited by the AJSA (All Japan Sushi Association), which might be hard to believe. Sabi Omakase serves only Edomae sushi, which is a kind of forefather of sushi.
