Reviews Summary

La Mar Cebichería is celebrated for its exceptionally fresh ceviche and diverse seafood offerings, creating a vibrant and festive dining experience. While many praise the impeccable service and delicious food, some note that prices can be on the higher side and the atmosphere can be quite loud during peak times. Despite minor drawbacks, it's widely considered a must-visit for authentic Peruvian seafood.

"I consider myself very lucky to be able to visit this amazing restaurant. Unbelievably fresh. Service is amazing. I went for lunch and I loved the ambiance. The music was festive and enjoyable. Definitely worth the wait and in my opinion the price is pretty good for the great quality they give. I would love to come back."

Carlos Millan

"Popular seafood restaurant specializing in ceviche. Expect a wait (we had about a 30 minute wait on a Sunday afternoon), but there's seating provided for waiting guests where they'll serve you a complementary snack and take drink orders. Our server was efficient, attentive, and very friendly. Spoke excellent English. We liked the charming interior decoration, though we found it a bit loud. Some potato chips and dip were also complementary when we were seated at our table, we didn't care for the dipping sauces but the chips were very nice, in varying colors.

We had two ceviche dishes which were both delicious, and a seafood rice dish which was nice as well. Unfortunately we ordered a bit too much, couldn't finish the rice, but the staff was very helpful in boxing it up to go. We were slightly irritated that the menu says "service" included, yet they still expected a tip. One or the other, I would hope."

Johan Björefeldt

"We really enjoyed our meal there the food was delicious, the service was impeccable and we would definitely recommend the place.

As they aren’t taking reservations at the moment we were at the restaurant at 12 o’clock sharp, there already was a line but we got a table instantly. (We went there on a Thursday)

Foodwise we really enjoyed the shrimp and octopus Ceviche the fish one wasn’t exactly to our taste."

The 15 Best Restaurants in Lima

If Peruvian Gastronomy conquered the world by the hand of recognized Peruvian chef Gaston Acurio, he did it accompanied by a Peruvian flag dish, the ceviche. This dish consists of marinated fish in the citric juice of lemon and lime, with hot peppers and celery chopped, accompanied by boiled corn grains, lettuce, fresh onion slices, and sweet Peruvian potatoes. And Gaston Acurio understood that he had to have a restaurant that paid tribute not only to Ceviche but to the history behind it, to the Peruvians who make it possible, from the artisanal fisherman who gets up very early for the catch of the day to the farmer on the Peruvian Andes who stays up late taking care of his harvest.

We don’t know how many plates of ceviche we ate during our many, many months of travel in Peru but the only one we can still taste is the ceviche we had at La Mar Cebicheria (#13 on the 2021 list of Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants): simple, beyond fresh, perfectly balanced. Choose from more than half a dozen styles of ceviche, as well as other raw fish dishes including tiraditos, nigiri, and maki. Peruvian favorites, like causas (terrines of mashed spiced mashed potatoes and fillings), are also on offer and cooked fish and seafood options run the gamut from whole fish to seafood empanadas.

It was time to sample Peru’s greatest culinary claim-to-fame, ceviche, and there is no better place to get a super fresh, traditional ceviche than at La Mar, Gastón Acurio’s seafood temple, which now has locations all over the world (I ate at the one in Miami back in December, but it was quite different from the one here).
