Reviews Summary

Panchita is widely praised for its delicious and authentic Peruvian Creole cuisine, with diners consistently highlighting the generous portion sizes and excellent value for money. The vibrant atmosphere and attentive service contribute to a highly enjoyable dining experience, making it a must-visit for both locals and tourists seeking traditional flavors. While most reviews are overwhelmingly positive, some patrons have noted long wait times during peak hours, underscoring the importance of making reservations.

"Our hotel recommended this restaurant, which was a 15 min walk. We were seated within 10 min without reservations. Even though this place looks fancy, we felt very comfortable dressed as tourist after visiting Lima and Miraflores. Food served was exceptional with large portions and prices were reasonable. The table and chairs were one of the most comfortable I sat in at a restaurant which was very spacious. Not once did we feel rushed. Keep it up!!!"

"We have good time and good food. Everything is great. But at the end Felix , our server , show us the bill and said service charge not included. But in the bill it said IGV 18% and something else 6%. (Which I use google translate and it said service charge). And he said 20% service charge is acceptable. We think it’s too much but thought it’s a common practice. The next day , we check with friend , they said 10% is enough. And if the 6% in the bill is the service charge included. We really feel bad for tricking us like this.

My point is just to warn others about service charge."

"Oh wow. Atmosphere, food quality, service… this was an amazing find!

Delicious food. Our server was very knowledgeable and helpful when I told them I am celiac. My meal was gluten free and also a feast for my taste buds."

Restaurants in Lima

Situated on a quiet Miraflores side street, and featuring a wood-burning oven and a cozy lounge where locals linger over cocktails late into the evening, this understated eatery serves up comfort food, Gastón Acurio style. Nearly everything on the menu is good, but standouts include the anticuchos (kebablike skewers, usually of beef hearts, but here also with more imaginative options such as swordfish) and codillo de cerdo crocante, pig's knuckles with meat so juicy you won’t need the accompanying zarza criolla. Go late at night, when the mood is mellow and romantic.

Acurio serves up posh anticuchos at Panchita and, last year, young chef Brandon Altamirano – who won best anticuchero in Acurio’s TV reality show Anticucho Con Corazón (“anticucho with heart”) – opened Anticuchos Bran in Surquillo, where you can mix up pork, chicken and beef heart.

A Guide to the Best Restaurants in Lima

Quite similar to El Bodegón, without the tavern aspect though, but with even more copious dishes and a larger list of options, Panchita is a must in Lima since you can taste some specialities from the coast, and a very wide range of tasty dishes that originate from the Peruvian Andes, thanks to head chef Martha Palacios. We recommend the grilled octopus on embers (S/68, pictured), beef heart anticuchos (S/39), and the adobo don pancho (S/53), a pork cooked on low heat in chicha de jora, ají panca, cumin, oregano, onion, garlic and vinegar, served with fried yuca, rice and Andean corn. Panchita is a fancy place inspired in the typical Peruvian picanterias and anticucherias, that is, traditional, popular, working-class intended creole food spots. Despite being a little pricey for locals, its superb cuisine and flavors make it an unmissable spot for both local and foreigners, so keep in mind that you will need to book a table in advance if you don't want to wait at the bar. The most requested dish here is the anticuchos ,(beef heart, grilled) and there's also a wide array of different and delicious creole food options, like the Aji de Gallina or the Lomo Saltado.

The Taste of Lima: Traditional Peruvian Food and History

Altogether, this fusion makes up traditional comida criolla (Creole cuisine) and there is nowhere better to try it than at Miraflores’ Panchita (Calle 2 de Mayo 298). However, experiencing Peru’s broad palette of ingredients is often best done at markets like produce-rich Mercado de Surquillo (Lizardo Montero 705, Miraflores). While you’re here, journey into unfamiliar colors and tastes like blushing, tart camu camu, bruise-hued maíz morado cobs and scaly-green but succulently cherimoya.

AMAZING: 21 BEST Restaurants In Lima, Peru (UPDATED)

As one of the best restaurants in Lima, Panchita covers the basics of Peruvian cuisine and much more. The restaurant was nicely decorated but still kept a casual family vibe, like a more upscale Applebee’s but without the screaming children or bros getting smashed on $5 margaritas. After browsing the menu, I decided on the Tacu Tacu Escabechado, a breaded and fried pork chop served with black bean tacu tacu fried bananas and an egg.

Another of Gaston Acurio’s many beloved restaurants, Panchita focuses on hearty, homestyle fare (comida criolla). This is the best restaurant in Lima to try classics more local to the highland regions such as cuy, papas rellena, and delicious sopas. Of course, some simply love it for the trendy yet cozy atmosphere, and the wealth of dishes cooked in the giant woodburning oven (the swordfish is always a great choice).

Dinner was relatively underwhelming, at one of the few places open on Sunday night, Panchita, one of Acurio's chains, where we had some more traditional Peruvian fare. The lomo saltado, a salty stir fry of steak, onions, peppers, fries, and rice, was tasty, but not particularly interesting, while Georgia's crispy pork belly might have made her a little sick!
