Diners frequently praise the generous portions and the excellent Pisco Sours. However, some recent reviews suggest a decline in food quality and an elevated price point, with occasional service issues noted.

"Taberna Queirolo is undoubtedly one of the most iconic restaurants in Lima, Peru. It holds a special place in my heart, filled with cherished memories from my childhood in Pueblo Libre. I used to gather there with family, and now I continue to enjoy it with friends and loved ones. I can't recommend it enough! It is an institution when it comes to Pisco, Peruvian wines, and traditional Peruvian dishes. If you're in Lima, you definitely shouldn't miss it!"

"From the moment you step inside you feel like you travelled back in time! A place that opened in 1880 and it still keeps the charm of the old days. The menu is quite extensive with traditional flavours and a large selection of alcoholic beverages. The food is simply delicious and the portions are generous. Although the prices may be quite elevated, you are compensated by an attentive staff and a truly unique decor."

Chalkboard menus, shelves piled to the ceiling with locally made wines and piscos, a worn wooden bar, and even a hand-cranked telephone give this venerable institution—a Lima mainstay since 1880—its nostalgic charm. The place serves delicious ham sandwiches smothered in zarza criolla and chilcanos made with pisco bottled in the factory next door, but in recent years has also expanded its menu to include a range of pastas and meat dishes.

El Queirolo is a tavern’s tavern, an old-school bar where generations of intellectuals have long come to debate from dusk till dawn. You are expected to linger here, as evidenced by the extensive menu, which offers everything from kid-size sandwiches like sánguche de chicharrón con camote frito—filled with sliced pork, fried sweet potato, and salsa criolla—to full entrées like ají de gallina (a shredded, creamy chicken stew in a parmesan and walnut sauce) to go-to snacks like cheese tequeños (fried wonton sticks filled with queso fresco, an unripened and mild-flavored Peruvian cheese).

Antigua Taberna Queirolo, in the Pueblo Libre area of Lima, takes you into the history of one of the country’s most popular brands of pisco. Their namesake tavern is located in a historic house with wood floors, black and white photos of the distillery and winery of the same name, exposed beams, a maze of large interconnecting rooms, and one of the first telephones in Peru.
