OZARK Diner

The American South is filled with food that comes from a cross between old world dishes and new world ingredients flavored by cooks from Europe, Africa and the Caribbean. At Ozark, I present my own take on the classic dishes from diners, soul food and potlucks. I stay true to the flavor and feel of the original recipes, but may update the technique or bring in a twist on the ingredients.

In the quiet neighborhood of Bakakeng on the outskirts of downtown Baguio is Ozark Diner, an American-style diner and bed and breakfast overlooking the gorgeous field and pine trees of a university campus. Owned by Albert and Kevin Mize, the diner offers authentic and soulful American Southern food based on Chef Kevin Mize’s upbringing in Arkansas. Plus: they are extremely pet-friendly.

You probably won’t eat cheesecake and down it with beer, but there’s another – nay, more ingenious – way of doing it: the dark beer cheesecake, which you can indulge in at Ozark Diner along Bareng Drive in Bakakeng. And if you’re still up for another slice, also try the Chocolate Siling Labuyo cheesecake (yes, complete with candied chillies on top).

Primarily, Ozark Diner is really unforgettable due to its perfectly smelling southern-style chicken. And because of this, it becomes one of the best restaurants in Baguio. Furthermore, what makes the chicken perfect are its breading and the tender, juicy meat.
