Raquel's Cuisine by Forest House

For the weary traveler, it becomes a refuge from the hustle and bustle of busy city streets, for the dissenting palate, it is a journey from familiar tastes to creative concoctions, and for the Baguio resident it is a proud landmark for having the distinction of being one of the Philippine Tattler's best dining places. Through the years the age-old bagnet has remained its top seller either as an "appeteaser" or as a main course along with staples of American, Japanese, Filipino and Korean dishes on the regular menu.

A Baguio institution, Forest House, was forced to close in the early part of the pandemic. In order to continue to support the livelihood of their staff—many of whom had been with them for most of their 19 years of operation, co-owner Raquel Verzosa, started a food delivery service called Raquel’s Cuisine by Forest House. They prepared some of Forest House’s bestsellers and had them delivered to people’s doors during the lockdown period.

Forest House was born out of the owners’ desire to capture the very essence of Baguio City. The owners describe Forest House as “a Baguio restaurant that feels like a Baguio restaurant, a place to escape the harshness of reality and take time out for a breath of fresh air, a place where you can sit back and relax. Its fare includes Bagnet, an Ilocano pork dish, steaks, salads, pasta, a wide variety of pastries and coffee.

Nestled among towering pine trees, Forest House is a charming restaurant that exudes a rustic and cozy ambiance. Located along Loakan Road, this establishment is housed in a beautiful log cabin, providing a warm and inviting atmosphere. Forest House is renowned for its sumptuous international and Filipino dishes, with highlights including their tender USDA steak and delectable strawberry crepes.

Imagine dining with a breathtaking foggy mountain view in the background—this is one of the reasons people come back for the food that Raquel's Cuisineoffers. Their bestsellers are the Baby Back Ribs, Bagnet Specials, and the Salads that are fresh from the trading post of La Trinidad. Dine-in reservations are required and they are open from 9 a.m.

The name is pretty much a clear indication of what really it is – a Forest House. It’s a combined restaurant and lodging, one of Baguio’s sought-after tourist destinations. The interiors are predominantly made of wood and other decorative elements provide a surrounding of a cozy home tucked in the city of Pines.

Raquel’s Cuisine by Forest House is a veranda restaurant with a great overlooking view of the city. Their mouth-watering dishes are definitely worth trying. From their appetizers to their desserts, people who have tried this restaurant only have good things to say about their service and food.

Forest House is one of the prettiest restaurants in Baguio City due to its country home atmosphere with display sunflowers and comfy couches. It would be good enough to get a seat inside the restaurant, but I personally prefer eating at the terrace where you have a view of the city skyline.

Forest House was originally located in Camp John Hay, but it closed its doors in 2020. However, it reopened in 2021 in its new home at Venus Garden, located in Suello Village, Baguio City. Forest House Reserve is a private al fresco dining experience that offers a five-course meal.

If you’re looking for a cozy yet elegant setting, Forest House is a great choice. With its cabin-like atmosphere, it’s an excellent spot for romantic dinners or special occasions. Their tender steak, creamy mushroom soup, and strawberry salad are among the must-try food in Baguio.

If you ask anyone from Baguio, Forest House is always included in the list of must eat places. I must admit, it is our first time in Forest House in Baguio. Now I understand why people rave about this place and why their attempt to expand to Manila did not prosper.

So that was the reason why we had our first dinner here at the Forest House. Every time I was asked for the food I want, I always ask them for their best sellers. RESERVATION IS IMPORTANT.
