Wai Ying is a Binondo institution, with 3 branches across the area, and more around Manila. For the price, their roasts are of more than decent quality, with the duck gamey and plump. But it’s the dimsum that makes Wai Ying one of the most popular places in town, and coming here with ordering any of their offerings is a big mistake.

Wai Ying was once Chinatown’s best-kept secret, but now it’s so packed you’d have to wait at the entrance for 30 minutes. But you’ll be rewarded for your patience, as the restaurant is known for the same quality dishes you’d find in more upscale Chinese restaurants, at prices that won’t make your wallet groan.

Across the Estero Dela Reina is the cult-favourite, Wai Ying. If you are following a strict diet, better leave it at the door as you will have one calorific meal here. They offer a variety of dim sum selections, the best of which is arguably the hakaw, which is so light yet bursting with flavour.

When in Binondo, you don’t need to shell out a lot of money to enjoy great food. One of the restaurants that prove it to this day is Wai Ying Fastfood. The two-story building’s mark is the royal-blue walls that add vibrance to the rather stark interiors and of course, their delicious food.

Yue Lai has that amazing Crispy Pork with Raspberry Sauce that’s their original recipe, and Wai Ying is well, Wai Ying. That legendary Chinese dim sum restaurant is opened until 1:30am in their branch at Taft avenue, though it isn’t as awesome as its branch in Binondo.

Wai Ying fast food in Benavidez st. also serves inexpensive dimsum. And if you’re feeling a little adventurous, try Cafe Mezzanine’s soup number 5. Think cow balls in tasty soup. I personally haven’t tried it, but I’m just not a big fan of balls for meals.
