"Finally got to try Chao Long, the iconic local dish of Puerto Princesa and wow, it’s a must for anyone visiting the city! Bona’s instantly won me over. The serving was massive, loaded with generous chunks of meat, and my beef stew was bursting with flavor. Comforting, hearty, and so satisfying I can see why this is a local favorite!"

"Puerto Princesa, Palawan
We tried this infamous Bona's Chao Long Haus. Not much to tell except that I personally find it delicious. The red color can be a bit alarming, but we asked the waiter, he said it was just food coloring (atsuete to be exact). My brother found it too sweet. It really depends on other people's preferences. Their garlic and cheese ban has too much garlic for me. Overall, it was okay. The pork buto-buto needs a little tenderizing as it was a little chewy."

"Ordered their best seller beef chao long and garlic bread. Their soup base is similar to pho but on the sweet side. I prefer the lighter taste of pho but I'm not complaining, given its price. I suggest that they roast/toast the garlic bread 😊"

MUST-TRY DISHES! Don’t miss these local delicacies! (Palawan)
Chao Long noodles have been introduced to Palawan by the Vietnamese immigrants. Puerto Princesa’s Chao long is flat, thin rice noodles in a sweet-savory broth with meat (beef or pork), served with the requisite plate containing sprigs of mint and basil, raw bean sprouts and calamansi. You can try Chao Long noodles and other Vietnamese dishes at the Rene’s Saigon Restaurant on Rizal Avenue.
Puerto Princesa restaurants you should try on your Palawan trip!
The Vietnamese-style beef noodles and Pinoy-style Banh Mi at Bona’s will surely fill you up and make you crave for seconds. The beef stew is reminiscent of a good ole Pho and pairs well with the eatery’s buttered French bread. You will find other eateries offering chaolong because of the Vietnamese refugees who settled in Palawan but Bona’s is one of the most well-loved even by locals.
Top Places for Food Tripping in Puerto Princesa Palawan
Chao Long is actually a Vietnamese noodle dish which comes in different flavors. We went there for breakfast on our third day in Puerto Princesa and tried there bestseller: the Buto-Buto with Noodles. It was quite good, actually, although I didn’t enjoy it much since I was still full and the taste reminded me of Chinese cuisine which did not really register a good memory in my brain.

Trying Chao Long noodles in Palawan is an experience I’ll never forget. The Vietnamese influence in Puerto Princesa, particularly in these noodles, adds a unique flavor to the local cuisine. PHO' SAIGON, PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, PALAWAN
Chao Long, a kind of rice noodles usually topped with fresh mongo sprouts, paired with french bread is a popular snack in the city and I think even in the whole province such that Chao Long restaurants can be found even in far-flung municipalities such as Brooke's Point, 192 kilometers south of the city.
PUERTO PRINCESA
The island’s “representative dish” is not even Filipino in origin but Vietnamese. There’s a bit on confusion though as chao long is congee in Vietnam whilst their noodle dish is called pho. Nonetheless, it is highly recommended visitors and Bona’s Chaolong House is the top pang-masa choice for this.
Chao Long in Quezon City
I’ve had Chao Long in Rene’s Saigon Restaurant (the best one for me) and in Bona’s Chao Long both in Puerto Princesa City in Palawan and I loved it. Since then, I’ve only dreamt about this Vietnamese-Palaweño noodle dish that a Vietnamese Pho on a Restaurant can’t suffice.
