What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Bar Pod Ryba is praised for its unique and delicious baked potatoes with a wide range of fillings, as well as its flavorful fish and chips. Diners appreciate the generous portion sizes and the cozy atmosphere in the old town. While most reviews are positive, some find the food 'average' and suggest it might not be a must-visit unless you're specifically craving potatoes.
"What an excellent potato bar! And our waitress was super- friendly and helpful!"
Wendy Frakie
"Staying in the old town and this was the first restaurant we dined in. Has alot of different kinds of potato pancakes flavors which is very interesting. I thought the flavors were mixed but it was on the side. The potatoes were really tasty but dipping it in cream was different. Not bad different, just not-used-to different. The fish and chips was also not the usual but the fish itself had flavor and I enjoyed it."
Joy Gumbsch
"To be completely honest - quite average. The food is okay, but nothing more. The portions are generous, prices are so-so, and the interior doesn't surprise at all. I wouldn't say it's a must-visit place in Gdańsk; you can skip it unless you're craving potatoes."

Gdansk, Part 2 – A Tall tower, Red brick Churches & a beautiful town hall
We went to the Bar Pod Ryba restaurant that we had gone to on our first day in Gdansk and settled in for a well earned lunch. I ordered fried Flounder for myself and stuffed potato pancakes for the better half and a typical beet and carrot soup to start us off. The portions were enormous and even though the food was absolutely delicious we struggled to finish the giant servings of food.
Fun and quirky bars in Gdansk I can recommend
Another basement bar in Piwna street, Jopengasse ( map) is a cozy place with tables which double as showcases for museum artifacts. If you like eating something while you drink (like I do), ask for the herring and vodka. If you’re very hungry and you love potatoes, head for Bar Pod Ryba upstairs (or you can order from Jopengasse).
Where to eat in Gdansk, best Gdansk restaurants
Those would be both Tawernas (Powroznicza and Targ Rybny), Zafishowani Restaurant (Dlugie Pobrzeze) or Bar pod Ryba. If you don’t fancy fish, there are many restaurants with international cuisine: Thai (Szeroka street), Russian (Ogarna street) or Argentinian (Szewska street) and many more.
