Taking the form of a hearty Polish country kitchen, Kogel Mogel touts maybe the finest Slavic cuisine in the entire city. The menu is packed with goose legs and guinea fowl, aged tenderloins and bubbling broths (yep, it’s not the best for vegetarians), while a couple of ubiquitous regional staples also make an appearance: Zurek soup; pierogi dumplings; blood-red barszcz. Meanwhile, the atmosphere is uber-romantic, with just a small al fresco space for couples that’s open in the summertime.

mary, I don't usually remember names of restaurants, but I kept business cards from two in Krakow: " Babcia Malina (grandma raspberry) and Kogel Mogel. Neither were what I'd call fancy, but had great food and were nice. But the whole old town / old market (rynek) area is jammed with restaurants. Where are you staying? That might make a difference. The Kazimierz area also has a cluster of trendier restaurants I remember one called "Trezo" that was more upscale.

Roast duck with honey, marjoram and apples, or roast leg of goose in a red wine sauce with Polish plums – these and other typical old Polish dishes are served at the pretty restaurant near the market place. The interior has a comfortable atmosphere thanks to beautiful decorations and the wood and brick inlays. From time to time, guests are entertained by a female singer and a pianist.

Our second experience at a Michelin starred restaurant on this trip is rivaled only by the first. This amazing restaurant is nestled into a little spot off the Main Square, and they have the most beautiful back patio for the ultimate old world feel. They have traditional Polish food, which is just what we wanted for our last night in Krakow.

A dessert of seasonal fruits baked in Kogel Mogel (egg yolk and sugar) signed off this brilliant lunch. Kogel Mogel is a traditional dessert made with egg yolks, sugar and flavourings such as honey, vanilla, cocoa or rum etc. Kasia added her own twist to it, with a drizzle of lavender syrup bought that day from the farmers’ market.

Kogel Mogel is busy garnering Michelin Guide mentions and stellar reviews for their brasserie-style menu that champions Polish culinary heritage. The deal here is that you can sample Polish food made to perfection. There’s no set—menu, but appetites can roam across the balanced menu.
