Startka Restaurant is a simple yet delightful spot that envelopes an authentic Polish atmosphere with delicious cuisine, unique interior ornaments and a cocktail pallet that’s simply delightful. The interior of the place is quite simple, yet the carbon drawings and the caricatures here and there add an authentic tone to the joint. Serving dishes like pork sirloin, aromatic rabbit loin, lamb and camembert opera salad, the menu is eclectic to say the least, while there are also plenty of vodkas on offer.

To splash out… I put on my glad rags and enjoy a fine dining experience at Starka in Kazimierz. This was one of my first discoveries in the city and it has a cosy atmosphere, delectable courses and a free vodka shot to round off the meal. For staple Polish cuisine with a theme, I head to The Black Duck, where courses are served with – you guessed it – duck.

We visited Starka midweek for lunch as it opened at 1 pm and just about managed to grab a table as it filled up quickly.

For some of Kraków's best local fare – like zurek (a sour rye soup made with sausage and potatoes that's commonly served in a bread bowl) and pierogies (potato-filled dumplings) – visit Starka Restaurant & Vodkas and Przystanek Pierogarnia. Recent travelers also recommend Taste of India for Indian dishes, Nago Sushi & Sake for sushi rolls and Bianca Restauracja for Italian cuisine.

The cosy 2 room restaurant on Kazimierz’ main Jozefa street has a fine choice of Polish cuisine and an even finer collection of vintage Polish vodka.

Starka Restaurant is a cosy restaurant and bar in the Kazimierz district, otherwise known as the Jewish Quarter. The food here is delicious, and we loved the pierogies. The only downside is that you only get four pierogies per portion and you’ll pay a little more for them too.

Starka swings the food pendulum back to authentic Polish food. Vodka, pierogi, marinated meats, and rich regional sauces are back on the menu. Commissioned graphics and soft hues invite you to linger and slowly savor the bar-restaurant specialties.
