Reviews Summary

El Popo offers a vibrant Mexican dining experience with a strong emphasis on atmosphere and live music. While many praise the authentic decor and enjoyable live performances, some find the food and drinks to be average for the price, with occasional issues regarding fat content or flavor intensity. Service is generally noted as a strong point, with staff being friendly and English-speaking waiters available.

"Everything was very tasty and hearty, but I didn't like the music, which was played in a pop style, which ruined the Mexican atmosphere. However, the service received a rating of 10/10. We were lucky to experience live music, but afterward, there was complete silence."

"If you are looking for authentic Mexican food, this restaurant is not the place. Although the decor and the Polish mariachi added a nice touch to the atmosphere, I was very underwhelmed by the food and drinks, especially for the price.

I do give positive marks for the service as our waitress was very nice, but the food was not good quality. The chips, along with the guac (which was pretty expensive) tasted generic and watery. The main dishes were just ok, but definitely tasted like something that I could easily prepare myself at home. Finally, the margaritas did not get my stamp of approval and that was the real bummer. I got the classic, and it was extremely sour and hard to finish. Their signature strawberry margarita was fine, but it was so sweet and artificial tasting, and thus also hard to finish. Compared to other Mexican restaurants of the same caliber in Warsaw, the drinks were unbelievably expensive, especially for the quality.

Will I come back? Probably not. I do wonder if there are dishes or drinks on the menu that would have been better quality because I was eyeing the mango margarita, but I think my first experience here was a little to lackluster for me to return."

Katie Plywaczewski

"El Popo is a very traditional place in Warsaw. Getting the original flavours being as far as we’re from Mexico is hard, but they have done a pretty good job. My recommendation would be to try the flautas and the tacos (these last were my absolute favorite)."
