Reviews Summary

Fialho is celebrated for its impeccable service and authentic, traditional Portuguese cuisine, particularly the rich main courses and delightful starters. Diners praise the historic ambiance and the family-run atmosphere. While most reviews are overwhelmingly positive, one diner found the salted codfish too oily for their preference.

"This restaurant is a must try. The service was impeccable, polite, very nice and fast. The food was absolutely gorgeous, tasty and very well prepared. The starters were absolutely delicious. The cod carpaccio with capers, the Serpa cheese, the roasted peppers and the octupus salad were divine. The main dishes were gorgeous, my roasted lamb shank was exquisite, as were all the remaining mains."

Hugo Pedro-Martins

"We had lunch at Fialho on a weekday. Very busy and fun environment. Our server was João and he’s great. We had the ham, pork cheek and lamb. All tasted excellent! The restaurant was so cute and nicely decorated.
Recommend to book a table in advance."

Keren C

"Excellent restaurant with classic Portuguese cuisine. The lamb was truly outstanding. If you are a fan of salted codfish, go for it. I found it too oily for my gallbladder ☹️"

The charming elderly owner, Amor Fialho, is the third generation of Fialhos to operate this popular restaurant. He has handed off daily operations to his children, Helena and Rui, but he's still present most evenings in the kitchen, and has been known to give foreign visitors a tour, pointing out photos of the former Spanish king's visit. The dining room, with a beamed ceiling and painted plates hung on its walls, is regularly packed on weekends, and reservations are essential.

With nearly 80 years under its apron, classic Fialho skews pricier, but with its historic ambiance and award-winning kitchen, this third-generation family run tavern excels at classic like broad beans with ham and wild asparagus with eggs, roast lamb or pork tenderloin with apple puree and rabbit rice. And then there's the encharcada from Convento de Santa Clara. This classic Alentejo convent desert with eggs, cinnamon and sugar caramelized under a broiler is a mess of a happy ending to wherever you choose to dine.

Alentejo Hotels and Restaurants in Evora Portugal

For tradition-steeped food in a more formal setting, tardis-like Fialho, tucked up a side street, is the place. You arrive to tables already decked with petiscos, and pick the ones you fancy (winners are the cured ham and just-out-of-the-oven chicken pie). The restaurant is famed for a partridge stew called perdiz à convento da Cartuxa but I’m swayed by baby broad beans with fried ham.
