What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Restaurante Lá ao Fundo is highly praised for its exceptional fusion cuisine, particularly its outstanding steaks and unique flavor combinations that blend Mediterranean, Asian, and African influences. Diners also appreciate the theatrical preparation of dishes like tuna tartare and the surprisingly good complimentary soup. While most reviews are glowing, a few mention occasional hiccups like risotto texture or inconsistent service, but overall, it's considered a must-visit in Funchal.
"Fantastic restaurant; a must try in Madeira. every dish hits the right spot. Probably one of the best pieces of steak I’ve had in Europe and exceptionally priced while being cooked right. Was thick as well. Chicken salad was on the money as a starter. Garlic bread was a must try. Went with white wine from Madeira. It was refreshing and complimented the evening after coming off a flight from Porto."

"This was the last restaurant we ate at in Maderia and to our aurprise it was By far the best restaurant we ate in Madeira. All the places we ate at were good, but this one was beyond expectations. The mix of Portugese, Indian, and African flavors made every entree we ordered exquisite. Our family was so satisified with the meal that we decided to skip our dinner so we could savor and enjoy this meal longer. We loved every place we ate in Maderia, but this place I will absolutely come back to. We enjoyed the sea bass stew with red rice, the sea bream, tuna tartar"

"Guys, it’s amazing! Best what we tested in Madeira in a week. Very tasty, very well served. Reasonable price, a bit higher than average. Try whatever they propose you! All the food was great!!!"

Owner, chef and sommelier Jaime Cruz created this flavour paradise close to the fortress in Funchal's old town. Inspired by the Portuguese diaspora's recipes from Africa to Asia, guests select from an extensive and creative menu and well-prepared fresh fish dishes. The popular tuna tartare, for example, is a bit theatrical: the chef will appear with a trolley at your table and prepare it skilfully as you look on.
