Reviews Summary

Comida Independente is highly praised for its exceptional selection of Portuguese and European wines and its charming atmosphere, reminiscent of traditional Portuguese grocery stores. Guests rave about the quality of artisanal products, especially the pastrami sandwich and cheese boards, and appreciate the owner's passion and knowledge. While most experiences are positive, a few reviewers mentioned potential issues with bill accuracy and the comfort of the seating.

"Such a nice place!
We came here for a wine tasting for my friend’s birthday.
First of all, we were warmly welcome and the staff was super friendly!
Then, the selection of wines, carefully selected by Rita, the owner, was amazing. From sparkling to red, it was a beautiful journey with new discoveries added at the top of my list. She focus on smaller wineries and even better if they are owned by women. I really appreciate that.
Finally, the food was tasty and well presented, I particularly enjoyed the burrata.
Thank you Rita and the amazing staff!"

Charlotte Tusset

"Burrata was good but not as rich as on previous reviews. Was strange to see how sardines were touch with hands at another side of the counter (hope very clean and washed carefully). Chairs are very uncomfortable, the whole place is not tidy. Check your bill twice as we got extra wine and meal to pay :((("

Anastasiya Kireyeva

"An absolutely SUPERB place.
Not cheap, but quality!

We had some glorious fizz, a great white wine and a beautiful IPA, and an amazing plate of burrata, with fig, chilli, and nectarine (yes really) served with some fantastic sourdough

The owner was delightful, and the whole team were brilliant. Fun, engaging, enthusiastic service with a smile.

We might well be back tomorrow..... 😃

Thank you!!"

The Culture Trip

The Best Wine Bars In Lisbon, Portugal

This resembles a kind of neighbourhood Portuguese grocery store of yore, where over 500 products – including all wine bottles – are selected from small (and notably organic) producers around the country. The owner Rita Santos has travelled to all regions of Portugal and beyond to discover the best food she could sell, among them sausages, cheese, rice, honey and vegetables. A small counter in the modern room is the best place to taste everything right there, with a few good glasses of wine (such as the ones from acclaimed producers like Cantina Giardino, in Italy, and Domaine Labet, in France), before taking your products home (or to your hotel).

Lisbon’s 5 best shops

Comida Independente exists in a zone between a wine bar and a mercearia (a small Portuguese grocery store). Regulars pop in for a chilled glass of wine and a snack – or (and?) to do a bit of grocery shopping. For me, the latter often means now-staples like a tub of Rainha do Pico butter – maybe the best butter in the world – and a tin of Pinhais sardines – maybe Portugal’s best brand for tinned fish.

Our selection of wine bars in Lisbon for organic wine

Comida Independente has carved out a specific niche in Lisbon’s culinary landscape. Prior to opening the specialty grocery story and all through its years of operation, its owner has traveled and keeps on exploring the Portuguese map, with the aim of discovering small producers and bringing their products to the capital city. These food and wines are then showcased in their permanent store and bar, as well as via their producers’ market ( Mercado Produtores), held every Saturday between 10AM and 2PM, at Travessa Cais do Tojo, downtown.
