Reviews Summary

Pateo - Bairro do Avillez offers a vibrant and chic multi-venue dining experience with creative Portuguese cuisine. Guests praise the excellent ambiance, attentive service, and the overall curated experience. However, some diners found certain dishes to be average or overpriced for the quality, with occasional inconsistencies in preparation.

"Beautiful dining experience at Bairro Avilez. Choice of 4 restaurants - from casual pizza to the main formal restaurant. All share a building with historic charm and modern design. The atmosphere and vibe are excellent - high-end without being pretentious. Service is top notch. … but the food was the main attraction. Every dish from appetizers to mains to cocktails were expertly done. Simple, creative, and perfectly cooked. The slow roasted lamb shank is to die for. Very good. Overall, a really well manicured experience and meal. Highly recommend this place for dinner. You won’t be disappointed. Reservation a must."

Andre A.

"Great atmosphere in this “garden” restaurant. It feels posh without being pretentious. The servers were attentive and knowledgeable. We ordered the recommended clams and tempura green beans followed by the seared tuna and squid. The food was ok, not mind blowing. The squid was tender, but very bland. Tuna was well cooked, but the side potatoes were super salty. Overall nice experience, but better food for half the price in other restaurants."

Andrea Mosca

"Came highly recommended by the hotel staff. The chef has many restaurants in Portugal and Michelin rated.
The service was impeccable, the food on point with lots of flavor perfect portion size. I chose a dessert that was the chefs favorite, suggests you dig in to the layers. I wish the it was served in a clear glass so it could be noticed.
All in all a definite recommend. They have 3 restaurants, I think under one roof. Great place."

Restaurants in Lisbon

José Avillez, one of the city's most distinguished chefs, has created his own foodie "neighborhood" incorporating a range of dining styles. For formal meals, there's the spectacular Páteo (a wrought-iron balcony encircles the room, which is illuminated by an enormous skylight) and a more casual tavern called Taberna (the kind of place where haunches of ham hang over the bar). Then there's Pizzaria Lisboa, where the thin-crust pies are prepared with great care; and Mini Bar, a secluded and dimly-lit spot for intimate drinks and small plates for sharing.

Chef and restaurateur José Avillez has given a lot to the city, from the prestigious two Michelin-starred Belcanto to the simple Taberna, a great place for a snack, lunch or quick dinner, at the entrance of restaurant Bairro do Avillez in Chiado. There’s a long list of charcuterie and cheeses, as well as favourites such as the thick and hearty steak and mustard sandwich (€15,75) and a more elaborate broad-bean salad with chorizo (€10,50). New on the menu is the meagre (a large white fish) with pesto, cauliflower and green beans (€20,50).

Celebrity chef Jose Avillez has made this little corner of Chiado, Lisbon very much his own with the Bairro do Avillez concept; several excellent, dependable restaurants under one roof and banner. We say roof, but the pick of the bunch is Pateo, a large and open outdoor space and a fine purveyor of all things oceanic.
