What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Zé da Mouraria is celebrated for its incredibly generous portions of traditional Portuguese cuisine and its authentic, bustling atmosphere. Many rave about the steak with garlic and the value for money. However, some diners have noted that service can be inattentive or less than hospitable, and the cod dish can be overwhelmingly salty for some palates.
"Amazing local Portuguese tasca! Delicious food. My absolute favourite steak with garlic. Huge portions! Come with family and friends. And great service!"

"This place was recommended by Lonely Planet so I walked all the way just to try it. It’s big a fancy place but it is rightly what I wanted to experience as a tourist. The portion is huge - I took my time and was able to finish half a portion plus a dessert, but I didn’t need a dinner that day. I also tried out green wine, apparently unique to Portugal.
I liked everything I had and if you are also travelling in Lisbon you may wanna give it a go of what I had."

"Solid 3 star for the food. We ordered the cod for 2 and got kilos of chickpeas covering the cod which was maybe cooked? We were the first or 2nd after they opened so maybe they were not ready. The waiters had a great time talking super loudly with each other, enjoying their company and maybe planning the world order. Us on the other hand tried without luck to eat the cod in a sea of chickpeas. Credit to them the chickpeas were great just a few too many, maybe for 20 tables worth. Anyway go there but know what to expect. For a 2 star experience try the salad."

Dining on Seafood Around Lisbon, Portugal
I stopped at Zé da Mouraria, which was recommended by my friend in Japan who saw it featured on a Japanese travel show. I took the tram from the Fernando Pessoa museum, which took far longer than expected — even with a seat, it was too long to enjoy the scenery from one end of the city to the other. Even with GPS, it wasn’t easy to follow the narrow alleys to the restaurant.
