If you’re simply after a quiet place to enjoy a few drinks or perhaps share a bottle of wine with whoever you’re travelling with then Bistro de l’Arte is the place for you. The charming location feels historic in nature and you can enjoy everything from beers and cocktails to aperitifs and wines. However, while we suggest sampling some local Romanian wine, we definitely do suggest asking one of the bartenders to mix you a cocktail.

The mandatory stopover is Bistro de l’Arte, for fine cuisine and exceptional ingredients. In the city center you can find the Barrique and Terroirs wine shops (the latter also has a terrace and a wine bar), and the Wine Stories by Fenyes wine bar, also on the outskirts of the city, for supplies, you can find the Le Sommelier warehouse, with a huge offer and very good prices.

Bistro de l’Arte is a great option if you’re looking for something a little more creative. They have a wide range of dishes on their menu, that all seem run-of-the-mill at first glance, but upon closer inspection have interesting ingredients or add-ons. The prices are slightly higher than average, but the quality of the food is worth it.

Reminders of my days in London where I once watched rock band The Belgrave Scandal rock out the Cafe de Paris. This arty little place is on one of many alleyways off the main street. The best thing for me was meeting three local Romanian girls who were able to take me to a local restaurant for a good lunch – Liv, Gina and Ana Maria.

Și la Bistro del’Arte a fost bună mâncarea – însă pentru mine, care nu mănânc brânză și alte lucruri, nu erau prea multe opțiuni. Am luat burgerul cu dulceață de ceapă și harissa și a fost foarte bun (48 de lei). Miruna a luat cotletul de porc cu brânză semimaturată servit cu tarta cu spanac și cartof.

Tucked down a little cobbled street just off Strada Michael Weiss, Bistro de L’Arte is dimly-lit, atmospheric little haunt whose walls are decorated with local artists’ work. There’s live music during the evening and their hummus is amazing!
