Reviews Summary

Shoukouwa is celebrated as one of the best sushi experiences in Singapore, lauded for its exceptionally fresh ingredients flown daily from Japan and the masterly execution of Edomae-style sushi. Diners praise the intimate counter setting and the knowledgeable chefs. However, some find the pacing during peak dinner seatings to be rushed, and the price point is considered high, though generally deemed worth it for the quality.

"Best sushi place in Singapore imo. Each sushi was sliced perfectly and had amazing melt-in-your-mouth feeling.

Front of the house gave very clear explanation of how each fish is sliced, marinated, seared, etc.

However, since I went for 6pm service, the pacing felt a little fast since they had to clear the table for the second seating."

Kelly

"Having been to both dinner and lunch, I have to say this is the best sushi in Singapore. Cannot think of anything negative to say about this place except maybe the price, but they are flying fresh ingredients from Japan couple times a week."

James Y

"I had the pleasure of experiencing an unforgettable omakase dinner at Shoukouwa, and it absolutely lived up to its two Michelin stars. Every course was a masterclass in precision, balance, and depth of flavor.

The meal began with mozuku, a refreshing seaweed appetizer that gently awakened the palate. Kegani (hairy crab) followed, its delicate sweetness a true indulgence. Then came sakana no kunsei, a beautifully smoked fish that added a savory, aromatic layer to the experience.

From there, the sushi course unfolded like poetry. The kinki (rockfish) was tender and nuanced, kasugo (young sea bream) had an elegant sweetness, and both shimaaji (striped jack) and buri (yellowtail) showcased impeccable freshness and skillful slicing. The botan ebi (sweet shrimp) was succulent and creamy, while the toro maki was pure decadence. The star for me was the nodoguro (blackthroat seaperch)—buttery, rich, and deeply satisfying.

The warm misowan served near the end was comforting and umami-rich, a perfect palate cleanser before dessert. The meal closed with a delicate mizugashi. Simple, seasonal fruits, and thoughtfully restrained. A beautiful, gentle ending to a luxurious evening.

Shoukouwa’s intimate counter setting allows for personal interaction with the chefs, whose quiet mastery and hospitality make the experience even more special. The staff was warm, attentive, and knowledgeable, guiding me through each dish with care.

This was not just a meal, it was a deeply immersive culinary journey. I’ll be thinking about it for a long time."
