Reviews Summary
Cafe Verne offers a unique atmosphere with its Jules Verne-inspired decor and a diverse menu featuring traditional Slovak cuisine and some international dishes. While many praise the generous portions, fair prices, and friendly service, some reviewers note inconsistent food quality and higher prices compared to other local options. It's a popular spot, especially with students, creating a lively ambiance.
"We read that this is a cafe owned by a university, so perhaps less driven by profit motive. With expectations appropriately set, we were pleasantly surprised! They have a full menu of traditional foods and a full bar in a lively atmosphere with couples, parents and children, and social groups dining and enjoying conviviality. Hubs loved his fish (which he rarely gets). My chicken goulash with gnocchi and cream was fine, but didn’t live up to its name, so I wouldn’t recommend it. Service was quite good! I’d go back to try a different dish."

"Apparently a very authentic place, where locals go more than tourists.
Service is nice but food is very basic. Duck is dry and spätzle a bit sour (white cream). Prices rather high compared to other restaurants and their price/quality ratio.
Rustic atmosphere, which is nice and authentic.
I would rather go to another place."

"A lovely place - almost a hidden gem as we nearly walked past it but I peeped through the lace curtains down into the restaurant and liked what I saw. The menu has lots of choice. We ordered beef stroganoff with rice and chicken & Gorgonzola with potatoes. We devoured both! I could probably eat that stroganoff every day - the beef was very tender and the sauce was delicious, especially combined with the rice. For dessert we had the pancakes with jam and curd cheese - really good too. We enjoyed some house wine with our meal. Service was great- friendly and we weren’t left waiting for anything. Prices were excellent for such great quality dishes. Thank you for a fantastic lunch. We’ll definitely be back!"

It has a cozy maze inside, but the best thing about the place is definitely the gorgeous chestnut-shaded terrace, where you can sit and watch the city go by. The menu includes café-style snacks such as toasts and pasta salads. In addition to the traditional “Urks”, the beer selection includes a dark, slightly sweet lager from Craft Brewery Saris at a modest price: €1.30 / 0.3l

After an hour of stronger beverages we moved back on to beer in Cafe Verne, a pleasant outdoor cafe, and then on to the Lochness Scottish Pub which was less inviting than the previous bars. That said, it was more exciting than the subsequent Wolker Bar which was practically empty. The pints in all of which were sunk with reasonable haste.

We recommend Flagship for traditional Slovak food, restaurant & cafe Verne near the Free Tour meeting point for a nice local hangout in a bohemian place under the trees. Srdcovka Reduta also serves delicious traditional food & across the street is Prazdroj which serves the best Pilsner Urquell tank beer in Slovakia.

Bratislava's Best Ice Cream, Statues, And Tours
Cafe Verne - A fantastic spot for dinner, and not just because of its proximity to the ice cream shop!. We started with a tomato salad and Ryan chose his favourite - the goulash, of course - while I had a goulash inspired dish with chicken in a creamy paprika sauce. No-fuss food at excellent prices.
