"Had a fantastic dinner here tonight thanks to the recommendation of our tour guide. The risotto with seafood was the highlight of our meal. It was,perfectly prepared with loads of fresh clams, mussels and calamari. The house white wine was excellent as well. The service was a bit quirky but good. The cheese platter enormous and the cheese quite tasty. The outside atmosphere was fun and busy. Location near the shores of the lake. Highly recommend."

If there is a theme here among the higgly-piggley collection ranging from antique sewing machines on the window ledge to the stuffed animals that share your seat, it is “at home with tvoja najljubša slovenska babica (your favourite Slovenian grandmother)”. A “Gostilna” is an inn – a bar that serves food.

On the final night we opted for the Oštarija Peglez’n Restaurant. From the outside it looked more like an English pub than a restaurant. Inside it is quite small with diners fairly crowded together, but that in many ways added to the warm atmosphere with banter passing from table to table.

Ostarija Peglez’n: located on the edge of the main town, this restaurant has good food and a cute outdoor area. Be prepared to wait (a good sign for restaurants in Europe), or book in advance, but it’s worth it. We ordered some house wine and seafood and weren’t disappointed.
