Gostilna na Gradu has arguably the best location of any restaurant in the Slovenian capital – housed within the centuries-old walls of Ljubljana Castle, which overlooks the city from a hill above the River Ljubljanica. Golstilna Na Gradu (Grajska Planota 1, Tel. 386-8-205-1930) in Ljubljana castle is a good choice for lunch and offers an appealing Slovenian locavore menu created by three of the country's best known chefs. At least, I don’t think old Attila ate thin slices of pork filled with grated cheese and spinach and fried in almonds with mashed potatoes. That’s what I had at Gostilna na Gradu. He may have drank a few bottles of the Rebula red wine with which I washed it down but he may have drank Slovene blood instead.

The Na Gradu inn-like restaurant (gostilna) lies right within the Ljubljana Castle complex. This is quite a stylish place, which has nothing to resemble an inn in its old-fashioned meaning. The outstanding chefs working in the restaurant use breads, cheeses and meats produced only in Slovenia.

Everything we read and our Airbnb host said that Gostilna na Gradu is the best restuarant in Ljubljana so we had to try it!. It turned out to be my personal favourite thing to do in Ljubljana 😀. Its known for cooking only traditional Slovenian meals and using the best Slovenian ingredients.

Gostilna Na Gradu: This restaurant is considered one of the best in town and is located in the Castle above the city. I enjoyed my lunch with an entrée of sea bass with broccoli, and cauliflower in a broccoli cream. They do have a tasting menu as well featuring seasonal, local produce.

Na Gradu Restaurant serves highest quality culinary delicacies at affordable prices in the pleasant environment of Ljubljana Castle. The restaurant is the combination of the efforts of three of Slovenia’s top chefs, focusing on a unique Slovene culinary experience.

There are a couple of on-site restaurants, Gostilna na Gradu and Strelec, which were highly recommended by our guide. Afterwards you may prefer to walk down the path into town. It doesn’t take long and once again you are rewarded by fabulous views on all sides.

Gostilna na gradu is located inside the Ljubljana Castle which is accessible on foot or by car. If you don’t feel like walking, the funicular is a wonderful way to get to the top and you’ll be able to enjoy the gorgeous view of the city of Ljubljana.

The Jezeršek family also runs a restaurant in Ljubljana Castle, Gostilna na Gradu. And it well deserves its Michelin listing. Take the funicular to the castle or join local residents for the pleasant — but steep — walk up and down the hill.

We had a lunch reservation at Restaurant Na Gradu, the mid range option at the castle. The food was delicious and we saw many other families eating there as well.
