What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
FYN is widely acclaimed as one of the best restaurants globally, celebrated for its innovative fusion of Japanese and South African cuisines. Diners rave about the impeccable service, the artistic presentation of dishes, and the unforgettable tasting menus. While most experiences are overwhelmingly positive, some have noted a personal preference for a stronger Japanese influence in the menu's flavor profile.
"WOW…. just WOW. What a spectacular restaurant to experience while staying in Cape Town. On our first night staying at Mount Nelson we had the concierge make this reservation in advance and this was easily the best restaurant we experienced during our entire two week stay.
From the doorman on the first floor who kindly walked out and opened the door of our Uber to greet us, so the hostess who walked us to our seats, to the multiple waiters who brought each dish to our table and explained the culinary craftsmanship behind every plate, this was a 10/10 experience.
We are blessed to have been able to afford this, as a local I’m sure this is quite expensive. As an American, this would easily have been a $1,000 meal in NYC.
This is a 9 course dinner and they generously created an alternative dish for my vegetarian wife. Whereas I kept the main meat course and selected ostrich. They had several options for the meat in the main course, but aside from that you get what is offered on the menu. Which is to say was so amazing!
Truly an unforgettable experience. Dinner was approximately 3.5 hours for us and we left incredibly full and happy."

"FYN is widely regarded as one of the top restaurants in the world, and it’s easy to see why. The concept—a fusion of Japanese and South African cuisine—is bold, creative, and beautifully executed.
For lunch, we had the option of a 7- or 9-course tasting menu and chose the 7. The flavors were layered and intriguing, and the overall experience was refined and memorable. That said, I was personally hoping for more of a Japanese influence. While Japanese elements were present, the menu leaned more heavily toward South African cuisine, resulting in richer, heartier courses than I typically prefer.
You certainly won’t leave hungry—this is a generous tasting experience, and likely one that will have you skipping dinner. It’s absolutely worth a try, especially for those interested in exploring a high-concept culinary fusion in a world-class setting."

"The food was amazing and the cocktails just as good. It was a real treat to sit at the chef bar and watch the masters at work. They were kind enough to interact with us and let us take photos of what they were doing. The staff were extremely friendly and the service was excellent. We are truly spoilt in Cape Town to have restaurants like Fyn on our doorstep to enjoy."
