What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Spiga is a beloved Durban institution praised for its delicious Italian cuisine, lively atmosphere, and friendly service. Many highlight the hearty portions and authentic flavors, with pizzas and pastas frequently singled out. While most reviews are glowing, some diners have noted occasional issues with portion consistency and slow service during peak hours.
"My in-laws come here all the time and have been raving about it for months, so we finally decided to have a family dinner there together — and I must say, I quite enjoyed it. From the moment we arrived, the staff were incredibly warm and welcoming, which added to the overall charm of the place. It’s a very family-oriented restaurant, and that atmosphere really comes through, making it feel cosy and relaxed.
The food was delicious. We each ordered something different and happily shared, so I got to try a variety of dishes. I had the Caprese Insalata, which was fresh and full of flavour. My partner ordered a vegan cheese and gluten-free base pizza — and it actually surprised me how good it was!
The highlight for me was definitely dessert. The Tiramisu was phenomenal — rich, creamy, and the perfect end to the meal. It’s one of the better ones I’ve had in a while.
Overall, it was a lovely evening with good food, a welcoming environment, and a strong sense of family. I can see why my in-laws keep coming back, and I’ll definitely be joining them again soon."

"I was told to visit this place and decided to make sure I do first thing upon visiting Durban. My pasta choice, was decent, although I prefer a creamy prawn pasta. The seafood pizza was a winner and so were the other two custom creamy penne pastas with added chicken. Owner guy greated us as we left. The staff was extremely polite and the over all experience was great. I understand this is a new location on Florida road, which my one friend said is better than the last 2 locations. . . It got a little hot seated outside and the ceiling fans weren't working, however, Great choice for Italian food overall."

"Food was really delicious. Better than I was expecting and serving sizes were quite decent. Lamb Lasagna was a bit disappointing as it was mince, and not lamb what I was expecting. Chicken one was good though.
Staff were very friendly and accommodating.
Biggest issue is to get parking here. It’s a bit of a nightmare, but not much the restaurant can do based on the location."

Restaurants in Durban
Perched at the top of the ever-popular Florida Road, Spiga is something of a Durban institution, and it certainly represents the attitude and overall feeling of Durban—unpretentious with an animated atmosphere that makes diners feel part of the crowd. The Italian menu is not always classical in its interpretation, but you can count on it being delicious and a good value (pasta dishes come in medium or large portions). The bruschetta di pomodoro is a good way to start, with lots of ripe, well-seasoned tomato on grilled bread, and the Linguine di Casa, made with prawns, olive oil, chili, and a Napoletana sauce, is perennially popular.
