Reviews Summary

Babel at Babylonstoren is widely praised for its exceptional farm-to-table cuisine, beautifully presented dishes, and the serene, modern farm ambiance. Diners frequently highlight the outstanding service and the freshness of ingredients. However, some guests have experienced significant delays in food service and noted issues with food temperature and overall management execution, leading to disappointing experiences despite the restaurant's reputation and price point.

"This place just gets better and better! Excellent, fresh farm food that is beautifully presented. We absolutely loved every bite! The service was also amazing, explaining every dish to us. It is not our first time enjoying lunch here, and we will definitely keep coming back :)"

Agata Koutakis

"Could not believe how wonderful this restaurant was! We didn’t know entirely what to expect so we were surprised when they started bringing out the food and explaining that most of its grown onsite and then continued to explain the befits of each food.

The atmosphere in the restaurant is beautiful, white linen, with a modern farm feel. Nicely situated and open."

Ryan Baney

"I no longer live in South Africa so coming here with a local-for me-is quite a treat because I simply get guided though. The wine options are always lovely. We booked for the open table breakfast with eggs on order, and it was fantastic. For R400 each, it might be steep, however, it’s reasonable in Euros, and it would be the same amount in Vienna, but this was much more in value for money in terms of options.
They need to make a special deal for locals though. People who live around the farm should be able to enjoy it."

Restaurants in The Western Cape and Winelands

Set on the grounds of one of the Cape's oldest farms, Babel is a vision in white surrounded by lush fruit and vegetable gardens and a gorgeous backdrop of mountains. Everything about this farm is stylish: the restaurant is in a converted cow shed, and the menu includes inventive dishes influenced by whatever is bountiful in the garden that day. Expect bold flavors and unusual combinations.

An eight-acre kitchen garden, inspired by one the Dutch East India Company planted in the 17th century, fills larders at the Babel restaurant (+27 21 863 3852; www.babylonstoren.com; about £35 for two) with pretty much everything a cook could want. Chef Stefan Dunz transforms the daily harvest into such delights as a 'red' salad of pickled beetroot and turnip, with fresh radish, grapefruit, smoked trout and toasted macadamia nuts; or citrus-glazed lamb served with grilled satsuma and rhubarb. All served with homemade cordials (pomegranate and thyme; yellow plum and geranium) and fine Babylonstoren wines.
