Reviews Summary

Batea is highly praised for its fresh, expertly prepared seafood and elegant ambiance, making it a top choice for seafood lovers and special occasions. While many rave about the unique flavors and attentive service, some diners have noted that service can be slow during busy hours and that certain dishes may not meet expectations. Overall, it's considered a refined dining experience offering excellent value for the quality.

"We were at the restaurant for lunch on Friday. Everything was perfect. The interior was very elegant and apart from casual dining, it is well suited for special occasions too. Toilets were clean anf spacious toilets with golden taps.
Of all the dishes we tried, the Galician mussels were the best, especially the sauce, to which the attentive waiter brought us bread so we could enjoy every last drop. The roast pork belly served within the surf and turf rice, along with monkfish cheeks was also delicious. The prices matched the quality and freshness of the ingredients, while still being fair, especially considering the location near Placa de Catalunya. We were a bit disappointed that the water was not free, which should be a standard. The service was attentive and friendly, and several small talks with the waiter only added to the already great atmosphere of the place. A minor discrepancy in the final bill was compensated by a delicious coffee liqueur. Overall, we enjoyed the place very much, and on our next visit to Barcelona we will be happy to come again. Recommended."

"My dining mate loves seafood so we had to try this restaurant and we were not disappointed. This was probably one of our favourite restaurants we tried on our trip.

Great service and atmosphere. Highly recommend you make a reservation: it was packed (despite being 8pm) and we saw several people turned away. Hard to pick highlights, because everything was so delicious but some knockouts:
1. Oysters: I'm not a big oyster fan, but the seasoned oysters were WOW. The sauces complemented the oysters so perfectly -- creamy, tangy, verdant
2. Scallops: original take on scallops, which were served warm and sliced.
3. Clams: oh my goodness, these clams. They were served with Agua de Lourdes (which we had never tried); they were sour, creamy and unforgettable
4. Tomato salad: acidic and extremely satisfying. A sleeper hit.

Would definitely come back. Thank you for the wonderful experience!"

"We stopped in for lunch, have to say one of the best meals I have had in Barcelona. The clams were really exceptional the seafood in general was very good. Would certainly recommend. It was also quite reasonable priced for the quality. I would return for sure."

If gorging yourself on fresh, seasonal shellfish without paying an arm and a leg sounds like your idea of a good time, then Batea is the place for you. Led by two young chefs, one from Catalonia, the other from Galicia, this is the more laid-back sister restaurant of nearby Besta. The menu is made up almost entirely of different takes on spiny sea creatures---from oysters to mussels, razor clams and white shrimp---sourced fresh from either the Atlantic or the Mediterranean.

It’s rare to find a great restaurant on a city’s most touristy street, but that’s exactly what Batea is. Make your way through the crowds on Gran Via to this charming seafood specialist, with its smorgasbord of oysters, rolls and fried fish. Batea is a new venture from the much-loved team who brought us Besta in 2021. They say younger siblings are more laid back and that rings true as far as the vibe goes at this relaxed marisquería, or seafood bar. But don’t be fooled: there is nothing casual about the food.
