Acclaimed chef Carles Abellan describes this side venture as ‘classic tapas’, but that is only half the picture. Although it’s modelled on tapas bars of yesteryear (its glass frontage is painted with menu items and jolly prawns, as those of all good tapas bars used to be) and it does serve Russian salad and ham croquettes, but it does them like nobody else. It also has the occasional more outré offering – my personal favourite is the ‘bikini’, a luxuriously truffled ham and cheese toastie.

Another nu-trad tapas bar focusing on excellent quality produce. Among the oxtail stews, fried prawns and cod croquettes, however, fans of chef Carles Abellan will also find playful snacks more in keeping with his signature style. The McFoie Burger is an exercise in fast-food heaven, as is the Bikini, a small version of his take on the ham and cheese toastie; his comes with truffle.

Another must-try is the signature ‘bikini’ grilled ham and cheese sandwich with black truffle, or if you arrive for breakfast, go for ous estrellats (fried potatoes with broken fried egg).

Tapas 24 was honestly my least favorite restaurant out of all the ones we ate at during our trip, but I’ve decided to keep it on the list because it came so highly recommended by multiple people and sources — not to mention, the line was out the door when we visited. Maybe we ordered poorly or maybe it’s just not my favorite style of food, but if you’re looking for a spot in the Eixample neighborhood, try it out and let me know what you think. We tried two types of boquerones during this visit, including a fried version at Tapas 24 Barcelona. I like anything fried for sure, but I truly love the fresher variety, particularly when layered with thin slices of fresh garlic or tangy vinegar. For the Americans out there, don’t be afraid!

The menu consists of dishes to share, there is plenty to choose from and if you’re looking for authentic food then this is definitely it. The place is small but they also have a terrace outside. It’s not the cheapest tapas place in the city (it has a famous chef), but it’s worth it!
