"What a cool place! Looking for a place for a night cap and were welcomed into this place although it was late. Super friendly staff (I don't speak Spanish but my partner does) and had a fun time with the people there. Delicious snacks, too!"

"Excellent value for the money. Friendly waiters, cosey and "real." The food was good and the lunch menu at €14 including drinks, fried anchovies, bread, dessert, and a free acorn liquor digestive can't be best. I not fancy, just solid good food."

"(Translated by Google) A bad experience. Place where I will never eat again. Lunch was bad. The meat came cold and I had to ask for it to be heated and it was accompanied by a sauce that seemed store bought. The potatoes were boiled and then fried but they were hard. For dessert, a watery and crusty rice pudding. The wine was bad... The space is, however, pleasant and the staff friendly.

O espaço é, no entanto, agradável e o pessoal simpático."

Those I’ve enjoyed in the past, like Rafa Arnaiz’s excellent Mesón San Juan (two courses €17) and the posher Oquendo (mains around €20), are being joined by a new generation, often with younger chefs and further from the centre, like Javier Martín with his €30 tasting menu and Botein, with seven courses for €52.
Caceres - history meets tapas and fine food
The classic Meson San Juan remains popular, but their tapas seem tired, so instead try the friendly Taperia Ibérico (Plaza San Juan 12), where outside tables offer a great spot to indulge in that escapist Torta before it runs off the plate, suckling pig, little tostas or croquetas, all using local produce.
