The prawn tartar was zingy and fresh, the croquettes oozed a creamy cheesy filling and the artichokes were phenomenal - sweet and salty and crunchy all at once. As if that wasn’t good enough, then comes the cheesecake. The cheesecake that has spoiled all future cheesecakes and become the new dessert benchmark. So light and full of flavour - we’ve tried cheesecakes at other restaurants across Andalusia after this one and nothing comes remotely close.
Topped off with great service and prices.

The food isn’t flashy and the decor is pretty standard at relatively new and less well-known Recreo Chico, but the service is personalised. The two women who run it take time to explain the menu, make recommendations and suggest wine. Speaking some Spanish helps, as this isn’t a touristy place (though there is a menu in English).

Recreo Chico is a delicious tapas bar that is home to one of my favourite dishes from our trip to the South of Spain, grilled artichokes. I honestly still think about this dish today. I don’t know how to cook artichokes or even what they should taste like, having only had them a few times.
