Plaza de Libertad 1In the heart of Plaza Libertad, next to the Mercado de Abastos, LaGuapa is that iconic kiosk that grabs you at first glance. Founded in the late 19th century and run by the Luna family since the 1930s—named after matriarch Carmen “La Guapa”—this spot is an almost sacred part of the Cadiz breakfast scene. Its churros and porras grill is served in paper cones early in the morning, and it’s common to find a line of locals and visitors who don’t want to miss this crunchy, comforting ritual.

Kick off your morning with a visit to La Guapa Churros, a must-visit spot for breakfast. Here, you can choose between the crispy (skinny) churros or the thicker, doughier porras, a regional variation they sometimes refer to as gordas (most locals go for the porras/gordas version). Both types are sold by weight, and for reference, €2 was way more porras than one person should take on alone!

Just outside the market, you’ll find some excellent albeit touristy restaurants like Taberna El Almarcen and the popular churro stand Churreria La Guapa. The farther you go from city center into more residential areas, the more relaxed and affordable eating and drinking become. As a general rule, you should avoid anywhere that has burgers and pizza on the menu.

It is a typical “dispatch” of churros in which the public can see how the churrero prepares the dough and fries the wheels which are then dispatched in brown paper cartridges.. Churrería La Guapa (Plaza de la Libertad, 1): It would be a crime not to try the churros from this kiosk next to the Central Market. And not just because of the churros themselves, but because it is also one of the city’s historic establishments, founded in the late nineteenth century.

One of the most traditional spots in Cádiz for breakfast, La Guapa is found in Plaza Libertad and has been running for more than 100 years. Their churros, served hot with a cup of thick chocolate, are a local institution.

And here at the kiosk next to the central market you will find the best ones of Cádiz. The line can get pretty long, but don’t let yourself be disheartened by that, it is definitely worth it!

Churros for breakfast are also not a bad way to start the day, and the ones from the little kiosk Churrería La Guapa, just outside the markets, are absolutely divine.
