Reviews Summary

Bar Santos is a beloved, authentic spot famous for its massive and delicious tortilla de patatas, offering a true taste of Andalusia. Diners rave about the flavorful food, friendly and efficient service, and incredibly affordable prices, making it a must-visit despite the lack of indoor seating. Some mention that while the tortilla is legendary, exploring other tapas is also highly recommended.

"So many good things to say about Bar Santos. It's a great old school bar and tapas place. Yes tourists know about it, but locals do too. The food is great and affordably priced. The tortilla is famous, but branch out and try more. The staff is great and really efficient."

Steve Young

"Bar Santos is a well-known traditional bar in Córdoba, Spain, famous for its tortilla de patatas (Spanish potato omelet). Located near the Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba, it attracts both locals and tourists looking for an authentic Andalusian experience.

The bar is small and often crowded, with people enjoying their food while standing outside. Their tortilla is massive, thick, and incredibly flavorful, served in generous portions. Aside from the tortilla, they also offer salmorejo (a cold tomato-based soup typical of Córdoba) and other classic Spanish tapas.

If you visit Córdoba, stopping by Bar Santos for a slice of their legendary tortilla is a must!"

Sarcopolo

"Very very affordable price and good hospitality (which is so so rare in Spain for our 2-week vacation). The signature potato cake is really amazing. We even went there 2 times for that haha.
It does not come with beautiful plates, but trust me, you won’t be regret waiting in the line after you taste it."

Restaurants in Cordoba

This very small, quintessentially Spanish bar, with no seats and numerous photos of matadors and flamenco dancers, seems out of place surrounded by the tourist shops and overshadowed by the Mezquita, but its appearance—and its prices—are part of its charm. Tapas (from €2.50) such as albóndigas en salsa de almendras (meatballs in almond sauce) and bocadillos (sandwiches that are literally "little mouthfuls") are excellent in quality and value, while the tortilla de patata (potato omelet) is renowned and celebrated both for its taste and its heroic thickness. When it's busy, drinks and food are served on plastic and you often have to eat outside on the street.

Córdoba’s Best Local Restaurants And Tapas Bars

Bar Santos is said by many Cordobans to do the best tortilla in the city – quite an achievement when you bear in mind that pretty much every Andalusian eatery serves it. Santos is more a place to stop for a filling tapas than for a full meal, and its location just across the street from the eastern walls of the Mosque-Cathedral makes it a great place to refuel whilst sightseeing. Order a wedge of the house speciality – which is cut off the tyre-like tortillas displayed in the window and served on a paper plate with a plastic fork – and enjoy with a cold beer while watching the world go by from the round tables outside.

The omelette offered is one of the largest in Spain, and the skewer is 2.30 €, being the average price of their menu 4 €, although if you are not much of an omelette also has a variety of tapas, the spectacular thing is the location of the bar and the experience they offer.

It’s easy to dismiss Bar Santos as just another of the many touristy bars around the Mezquita, but one look at the impressive display of massive tortillas just inside the door will tell you that you are in for something special. In spite of its location it still manages the look and feel of a little neighbourhood bar with just one table inside and standing room only at the bar. Their trademark dish, a 30-egg tortilla de patatas, is served by the slice for 2€ and goes great with either a cold beer or a bowl of salmorejo.

You might think that is a tourists bar, but the tortilla that is served here does not care about nationalities. It became famous more than 20 years ago due to the size of its tortillas and it has been keeping up its fame thanks to the quality of the food and the charm of the bar. You will pay 2€ for a generous piece of tortilla and if you want to, you could also order a bowl of s almorejo (it is as delicious as tortilla) and a beer and then relax on the Mosque’s wall and enjoy the sun at midday.

Best Restaurants and Tapas Spots

This unassuming Córdoba institution is as much a part of the city’s fabric as the Mezquita-Catedral that looms just across the street. A modest, no-frills bar with an oversized reputation, it has become a pilgrimage site for locals and visitors alike, all drawn by one thing: the tortilla española or tortilla de patatas. This iconic Spanish potato omelet, served in generously thick wedges, is the stuff of legend—hearty, and well seasoned, even though it won’t be the best you’ll find in Spain.

Córdoba for food and wine lovers

This tiny no-frills bar opposite the Mezquita is famous for its massive tortilla de patatas made with 5kg of potatoes and 30 eggs. Order a slice with an ice-cold caña (small glass of beer) and enjoy it all outdoors, sitting on the ledge below the Mezquita wall while watching the world go by. Other traditional tapas are also available, but it’s the location – and the tortillas – that make this friendly little bar almost as big an attraction as the Mezquita itself.
